Lafayette –*Southern University*didn't arrive here Saturday for its season-opener with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette until 5:15 p.m. for the 6 p.m. game and was missing at least five players when it did. The Jaguars were delayed leaving Baton Rouge because of NCAA certification issues with several players, including starting linebacker*Daniel Brown*and transfer running back Malcolm Crockett.

Southern sports information director Chris Jones said the team left late as university officials sought additional certification information on the players. When they could not absolutely determine the players' eligibility they opted not to let them travel, Jones said.

Southern arrived in Lafayette and took the field for pregame warmups at about 5:35 p.m. The game started at 6:04 p.m.

:noidea: if they don't know who's eligible then who does?

. The offensive line was hit the hardest. Starting left tackle Reginald Redding was absent, which would have led to a shuffling of the line and the insertion of Terrell Lee into the lineup. But Lee wasn’t on the bus, either, leading to another change up front.

The Jaguars opened the season without senior linebacker Daniel Brown, easily one of the most important players on the team, both from a performance and leadership standpoint. That side of the ball took another hit with the absence of safety Renaldo Thomas, a transfer from Tulane ticketed to start.

Tisk, tisk, tisk....

I wonder do the NCAA know about ALL this. This can't look good when the NCAA hadn't even ruled on ALL their teams yet. Not looking good.

Where's that photo of the Iraqi soldier saying "everything's under control" when you need it? Broussard, the best AD don't know whose eligible 30 minutes before kickoff?! Are you kidding me?
I wonder if they'll blame this one on LeFleur.:smh:

Even with these issues that can be corrected, My guess is Southern U is about 35 points better than jsu and probably about 42 points better than Grambling at this point.

That may well be true or not true, but at least the Old Man knew how many of his players were eligible 30 minutes before game time.

Y'all need to check and see if y'all can add the 35 and 42 points too your APR

The S.U. administration did the right thing by holding out those players as well as working until the last moment to get any clarification they could. It's unfortunate that things worked out the way it did. Grambling has not beat a FCS opponent in 2 years and you're over here focusing on Southern? Your program is a piece of $hit and your dumb azz team didn't even board the bus for a game last year. GTFOH and GOSITCHOAZZDOWN! :emlaugh:

Wow, now whose FN up threads?

This is a grade A N word shat.... This is really, really incompetent.

No no no no....you couldn't be more wrong bro....see I bet SU's budget is in order and the people in BR really like the AD. Ain't that what JSU people told me about SUs glorious leadership? This is FN sad and incompetent on another level. Different year, same shit, same damn article. The Advocate should just save the template and just insert different names every year.

Ain't yall sick of this shit? Don't yall think it's time for "somebody" to put a system in place that avoids this c**n shit every year?

This is just embarrassing

We beat valley, not happy about it but it is what it is, and nobody focusing on that failure in Baton Rouge. The NCAA knocking on the front door and the GRAD Act knocking on the back door. Mason and Llorens did good to leave, nobody wants to be apart of a sinking ship!
