SU band audit reports $17K in bogus bills

Southern University's bandleader approved nearly $17,000 in bogus receipts -- including charges for breakfasts that were actually free and meals at a diner that didn't exist -- a draft of an auditor's report shows.
The money for the made-up meals came out of the school's pocket.

Large cash advances, a lack of internal oversight and employees who failed to notify superiors about suspicious documents led to the alleged abuse, according to the legislative auditor's report, which is expected to be released today.

Isaac Greggs, who has directed Southern's "Human Jukebox" for 40 years, said through an attorney Friday that he takes responsibility for what happened on his watch, but did not provide the false receipts himself.

The draft report indicates, however, that Greggs admitted wrongdoing in two of the 15 cases in question.

In the past five years, I've learned first hand that it's always three sides to all stories.

That is so true CleB. Three sides is definitely what you have with this story.

Southern's chancellor Ed Jackson, says it ain't over yet...

Wednesday, May 25
Baton Rouge - Isaac Greggs, leader of the Southern University marching band, will get one more season at the helm of the Human Jukebox, Southern's chancellor, Ed Jackson, says. The assignment comes despite an audit report alleging that he stole nearly $17,000 from the school over four years. Defense attorney Hillar Moore III said Greggs believes that someone else is responsible but repaid the money because the abuse happened on his watch.

Do you have a personal beef with Doc? Just wondering.......

This is news. Ask the advocate and other newspapers, regional TV stations and the Legislative auditor the same question. I know "southern folk logic" is to get defensive and to start name calling and try to divert from the situation. I can't tell you how many times I seen then say, "you people are speculating about this" or "there is a conspiracy against Doc" or "someone else is responsible for the stolen money"

Now everyone can see what actually happened and not speculate. Isn't that what people want? The Truth.

There is info. about Grambling out there. And I am sure someone will post it. There is nothing I can do about it. I am not gonna cry like a baby and resort to juvenile antics. Be an adult and move on.

That was a yes or no question. Because we all know about this audit, and yes it has been on the news, etc. But, it seems that as soon as someone posted the fact that he was retiring and everyone was speaking words of admiration and respect toward him, you all of sudden decided to enlighten us about the "facts".

I was just wondering.......

Your actions are expected as well. What makes this hilarious is that the shat is on a gsu website. Why didn't ya'll post the info on similar activites going on at gsu??? We are all capable of finding the info so we don't need you or the rest of the gang's help. You spend so much time on SU's tip why don't you go find yourself a friend, buy a puppy, go cook, go to church, GET A LIFE I'm sure you have better things to do than to be the internet info finder.

Re: Southern's chancellor Ed Jackson, says it ain't over yet...

Greggs needs to stop with the "it wasn't me" isht. Most folk have their minds made up and unless it comes from the Legislative Auditors in a report (and even that won't convince some), the perception of guilt will be attached to him in this fiasco. Personally, I think it was not "out and out theft" as much as a case of a man thinking he could do what he wanted with "his" band's money. As I stated before, he's probably spent a lot of his personal money that was not reimbursed...that's okay and not considered a crime. But when it's money given by the university then it is viewed as criminal.

In the meantime, he needs to make sure he has enuff Grecian Formula (Jet Black, of course) to make sure he goes out in style during his "get your azz outta here" finale. (Sorry Jay Arrah) :emlaugh:

Have you seen the title of this thread? In case youn haven't
"Southern band audit reports $17K in bogus bills"

All I did was post the audit in case someone wanted to read and not guesswho was telling the truth. This is not about me. It is obvious that you haven't seen other sites comment on this subject. I don't think anyone here has said anything negative but they are else where. Don't let the facts stand in your way.

Re: Southern's chancellor Ed Jackson, says it ain't over yet...

Mike Bigg you better believe this year will be worst a## whippin from a Greggs directed SU band GSU will receive. I know my Frat will make this Bayou Classic performance one that will make everyone say "Damn why he did GSU like that". Man you GSU people are loving this, when will you let it die. As a matter how long ago was GSU facing some serious problems?

Re: Southern's chancellor Ed Jackson, says it ain't over yet...

If I ain't guilty I'm not paying back over 15K just because it happened on my watch.

Maybe those bogus bills are why Doc has a far better program than GSU..

Re: Southern's chancellor Ed Jackson, says it ain't over yet...

Be careful suTrp96! Be very careful now!!!  I wouldn't go that far!!! Besides,...what you just said makes no sense at all. Mabe a diversion perhaps????
Oh and by the way,....try to stay on the subject at hand!!!!
:smh:

This shat is so funny, because not too long ago GSU was facing some serious trouble. Anyway laugh and crack your jokes, because Doc will go out in style and still on top of your sorry arse GSU band program and he's keeping his full pension. We'll see who the last laugh is on in a few months.

No whats so funny is how you people have messed up this thread. The thread was made to give out the information that the auditor has reported. When GSU was having problems people had a field day with it, but some of you jags act like a old arse woman. I know many people from Su and my dad is an SU alumni and marched 4 years in the band and surprisingly he hasn't been defensive as a lot of you 90's and 2000's SU alumnus because he knows when wrong is wrong you have to suffer the consequences. This is not rally gonna do anything to Doctor Gregg because he is well respected and a legend, so you are running your blood pressure up over nothing. Suck it up the shat happened and you can't take it back: Doc has acknowledged that he is part of the blame because he is the HNIC: since he has enough pride to admit his faults then you should also, this topic has nothing to do with the rivalry between GSU and SU, to get off topic you are using it as a scape goat.

This point is well made. It is a fool's mistake to acknowledge that Doc is anything less than a legend; to dispute that he has built a dynasty; to claim that he, along with Southern Band, are not world renowned; and now sadly, according to the LLA report, that he did not indeed take money intentionally on two of the fifteen counts. Everyone falters (We fall down) you all know the song. Let's not dwell on this.
I have mixed feelings about the 'Departure Season'. On one hand I would like to see how the other Band Directors (Especially Griffin at Alcorn) handle themselves. Moreover I am eager to see if Doc will be gracious or have that 'Take No Prisoners' attitude that he is famous for.
It is my belief that, in time (6 months), people will forget this. These threads will go away and everyone will get back to the real band issues. Who am I kidding?
