Southern at Northwestern State

Northwestern beat Missouri State 23 - 17 this past weekend in Springfield, Mo. How do you think the Jags will size up against them next weekend in Natchitoches? Will the Jag Nation travel next weekend?

I do believe it was a Southern game in the 90's that is NSU all time attendance record. Turpin Stadium only seats about 17,000 and Natchitoches is only a 2-1/2 hour drive from Baton Rouge.
 
I think we can compete and win this game provided, we avoid turnovers and stupid penalties.

As a matter of fact, the 3 largest attendances in Northwestern's history have been their homes games against SU. This upcoming game has been designated a "special event" which allows them to raise ticket prices for this game only. This has been done on the bases of their previous experiences with SU attendance-wise.

Too bad SU couldn't do the same when they come play us in Mumford. Northwestern State is one of those school that has a very small fan base that doesn't travel well. Maybe we should consider boycotting their home games against us for fair ticket prices. I would love to see SU start playing Nicholls State again. Also, Thibodaux is not as far as Natchitoches.

We gain nothing playing Nicholls. Are you kidding me.
 
I think we will be fine...we got all the 1st game bg's out the way...i don't expect to see perfect play this week ..it's only the 2nd game but i do expect to see the D wrap up on the tackling a little better

Haven't seen our 1st string running back..but coleman shows flashes.....his only problem is he needs to slow down a little , Look and wait for a bigger hole to develop .. instead of just hitting the 1st small hole full speed.....let the play design play out

thats how U of H running game got us...the RB's they used were patient...it looked like it took a long time for the plays to develop but when all the blocking assignments were picked up mannnnnn he had holes for days to run through

I think it'll be a good game for both schools....Northwestern's been DOWN for several years. They got a nice road win, so, that'll give them some confidence....if Southern goes into Turpin and gets up early, Northwestern's gonna get that "oh, crap, not again" thing going on...

The worst thing for Southern would be to NOT produce early. If Northwestern establishes a lead or it's competitive, late, they'll have more confidence...Southern's gotta get up on them early to win....

Since 1991, our record with Northwestern is even 5-5, whereas Nicholls State have a few games lead on us. They are both in the same conference. IMO, they are both about the same as an opponent.
 
I think the Jags can beat Northwestern in Turpin Stadium. I think coach Odums will let the QB air it out, and if Tillery is back, we should be just fine.
 
I see you guys love talking about your offense but are totally ignoring your run and pass defense. Your defense is the key to whether or not you'll win.

Our defense will be fine. We just played the #15 ranked offense in FBS last season. They were Just to fast for SU.

I'm sure our defense has to get better, but Northwestern State has nowhere near a Houston type offense. I would say whose offense NSU is closer too, but you might take it as smack.
