BATON ROUGE, LA — Southern University football finished the 2012 season ranked No. 9 in the Football Championship Subdivision in average home attendance and No. 1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the university announced Wednesday.

In 2012, Southern posted an average home attendance of 16,602 with only four home contest at the 25,500-seat A.W. Mumford Stadium. The Jaguars also played in the No. 2 (vs. Grambling), No. 4 (vs. Florida A&M) and No. 21 (vs. Texas Southern) overall highest attended single games in 2012.

"This year's significant increase in home attendance and uptick in Bayou Classic attendance was the result of a multifaceted marketing and social media campaign and robust community outreach combining with an improved on-the-field product," said Dr. William Broussard, Southern athletics director. "We were able to host 750 area youth and over 1000 prospective high school students through various initiatives and do much more through discounted/group sales."

Southern, by virtue of the Bayou Classic, also finished 2012 ranked No. 4 in total home accumulated attendance at 112,389.

I also give props to my Hornets. The New Hornets Stadium brought in enthusiasm and excitement. It's not bad to come in fourth among all HCBU's.

Nice venue from what we can see by the pics. Look forward to SU playing there next year.

What is Southern's stadium capacity. I don't think the people at SU know.

reading is fun... well you know.

Nonsense, Southern University added on a big beautiful field house in addition to the extra seating. If the average attendance was a little over 16K and we have over 25K seats, it appears that we have adequate seating (at least west of the Mississippi River). :emlaugh:

So you criticize the lack of quality teams in the SWAC, but claim that SU is "getting it done" with a losing record? Maybe I'm missing what "getting it done" means.:emlaugh:

My criticality of the SWAC is substantiated when one looks the OOC record from top to bottom of the current SWAC members. Would you not agree?

I'm not going to explain my "getting it done" comment. Obviously the Jags, who my compliment was directed towards, understand exactly what I said and why I also stated their losing record simultaneously. :)

It is basically the SWAC Page version of the Pavlov conditioning theory. 99% of jsu posters see the phenomenal words Southern University and start salivating. :emlaugh:

I tried to warn you. :emlaugh:

You got the Pavlovian thing correct. Anytime we hear the word Southern, we think "loser". Hahahahahahahaha!!!
We don't slobber over the name "Southern" like folks from other schools.

I see why they won't let you in the jag forum?:snicker:

I never asked and begged like you do. But maybe one day a Dancing Doll might say hi to you.

Also, it's bad enough you spend 90% of your time keeping up with Southern, but when you start inquiring about my status on this board, I definitely have to start worrying about you.
