"Sonic Boomers" 1982 to 1984, I have a question concerning "Sonic Boo

What?s the name of the chorale piece the ?Sonic Boom? used to warm-up to from 1982 to 1984 when they first got into the stands? Each band section would sing Ah, Ah..men, Ah, Ah, Ah..men, Ah, Ah..men, Ah..men...

Sounds like Asbury's version of the Lord's prayer:

THE LORD'S PRAYER (Asbury's version)
(all commentary courtesy of Rev. Asbury P. Jones)

All: Our Lord, our father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name, they kingdom come

T/B & A: thy will be done
S: On earth as in heaven

T/B (distinct pitches): Give us this day our daily bread
S/A: And forgive us our debt as we forgive our debtors
T/B (distinct): And lead us not into tempation

S/A: But save us from evil
[T/B join in on "from evil"]

S: This is our prayer . . . thine is the glory
A: Lord we praise/ thine is the power

T/B: Thine is the kingdom, thine is the power

All: Forever more, forever more

From the perspective of the Sopranoes, there are three "Amen"
signatures.

1) Ah, ah, ah, men Ah, ah, ah, men Ah, ah, ah, men Ah, ah,
ah, men

[remember, this is the one that goes up a half step each time
you sing it. Tenors, it is your no.3, altos, your no.2]

2)Ah, ah, ah, men Ah, ah, ah, men Ah, ah, ah, men
[remember this is the one that is the same three time. Tenor's
no.1, alto's no.3]

IMPORTANT NOTES

TIMING:
1) Many areas of this song begin on the 2 of a four beat
measure. In fact this is the case with almost all entrances in
the song leading up "This is our prayer."

Sopranoes: Remember, you begin "this is our prayer" on the up
beat between the 3 and 4; and you begin the "Amen" scheme
immediately on the 2.

T/B = the two sections sing the same pitch unless otherwise
indicated (for example, as in the "give us this day . . ." part.
S/A sing distinct pitches throughout the whole song.

"My The Lord Bless And Keep You" We played it on the field at Southeast La game as a tribute to the Marines killed in Beirut barracks bombing.

We would play through first then sing.

Those were the days! Strawberry Stadium jammed packed! Was that the game where Southeast La was the home team, but they asked Jackson State's band if there band could perform first instead of the "Sonic Boom" performing first? The "Sonic Boom" concerts in the General Purpose the Sunday after the Alcorn game, those were the days!

Like it's un-common for bands to use the same chants, sing the same songs (like I'm So Glad, Glad To See You Again) and play the same songs. We Got So Much Soul is certainly no different from any other song black college bands sing. :xeye: You acting like the BOOM stole Gram's alma mater. Get over yourself.

Critter did you just get in the band to get in the games for free?

Cause I honestly don't think you know a G sharp from an A flat...

Didn't JSU "aquire" the whole Rock the House thing from GSU?

Re: "Sonic Boomers" 1982 to 1984, I have a question concerning "Sonic

^JSU stole that chant from Grambling!

you sure that wasnt an actual song back in the day? I remember AAMU and other SIAC bands back in the 80s using the chant when the refs made the bands stop playing.
