Students take education issues into their hands
Fyre Youth Squad wants change at school

About a dozen students who belong to a group called Fyre Youth Squad gathered on the steps of John McDonogh Senior High School before classes Monday morning to voice concerns about the quality of their public school education.

The students said they need textbooks, teachers and better security in order to succeed and make the city a better place.

"If we don't have a future, the next generation won't have a future," McDonogh senior India Young said as security guards, one of them wearing hair curlers, looked on.

Good article...I'm glad it's about New Orleans. (you either stand for something, or you'll fall for anything)...it seems these youth are taking that to heart. I commend them...:tup:

I was in New Orleans when they called this newsconference. The kids themselves conducted it and faced the media the same way you would see a politician or activist promoting a cause... I was extremely proud.
