Should the SWAC seek another bowl with the Southland Conference?

The NCAA would have to approve this for it to happen. I don't think they will do it any time soon. They don't want any more bowls taking away fans from the playoffs.

This ends after next year (the NCAA put a 3 year moratorium on bowl games. The Celebration Bowl was the last bowl created).

Let''s just for conversations sake that the SWAC ends up in situation like this year with the exception that Southern does not have any restrictions. Should we allow a 5-6 Alcorn represent us or an eight a 8-3 Southern?

Your question Blue Dog is a good question but as usual you don't reply to questions that could strengthen the overall debate.

We could send a 5-6 team but I feel the 8-3 team would be better. I, personally, would want the better team to go and win. Maybe the 5-6 team could pull off a win, who knows. I'd rather take a chance with the team that has the better record.

They have no say in the playoffs, they are not the ones sponsoring it and they are not giving the winning team a trophy. The NCAA has never given a D1A (FBS) National Championship Trophy.

The NCAA has no control over bowls. The school presidents, networks and conference commissioners do.

Yes they do, they have to approve all bowl games.

I'm split, I would love to see another bowl. But, at the same time, I would love for the CB to be the all in one bowl where we,as HBCU football fans, make the CB a BIG must attend event for HBCUs.

How can having a bowl as a constellation for the SCG runner-ups change that?

I look for the CB as being very big event for the SWAC/MEAC. Now that the MEAC folks have taken to this idea it can only grow. A must attend event in the next few years. If we have a second bowl, that particular fan base and the schools closer to it will focus on that game taking some of the attention from the CB. IMO.

I see your point but I think you're over looking the fact that the meac won't be included in this one. The SWAC is the all-time reigning champion when it comes to fan supports so we just need a great neutral setting for the other participants .

I used Southland as an example because they are the closest in our footprint but I've stated for years that my dream would be to have a bowl against the Ivy League.

I see where you was going with it. I'm just split on the idea. I want us to make sure we build the CB and get an extended deal with Disney. After that extended deal we go to looking at other options to gain other bowls.

That's goes without saying but the ncaa having a halt on any new bowls until a couple more years sort of covers all of that. We just need to take care of our end and even though fan attendance isn't the main driving force it still is a big persuader in further investment IMO so we need to get bigger there to but match ups plays a big part in that

Actually the NCAA has to sanction every bowl in order for NCAA regulated schools to participate.

Hmm.....I'm not so sure about that . I remember reading that the BCS playoff championship bowl wasn't sanctions and I saw a list of non-sanctioned bowls when I was digging up the which were sanction

The bowl system and the NCAA is just like this....

And that's why there is a three year embargo on new bowls. No matter how you want to look at any of it. The NCAA runs it. They try to say they don't because of the amount of money involved. but they run Bartertown aka The Bowl System.

I wouldn't say that they run it but they stay just close enough to give the illusion that they run it while staying far enough away as not to give the appearance of consent or actually participating while getting monetary gains. Which is why they don't sanctions (approve) the BCS bowl playoffs games.
