Young french brother stuns former major champion

French 17-year-old Moise Kouame is the youngest player in the Open era to topple a major champion at Roland-Garros after felling Marin Cilic in an emotional first-round breakthrough on Tuesday.

Chants of “Moise, Moise!” rang out among a standing ovation on Court Simonne-Mathieu on Tuesday after the Parisian wildcard overcame a 20-year, five-month age gap 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-1 in his main draw debut.

The french pay tribute on Monfils on his final match at Roland Garros.

The man, the myth, Monfils

There will never be another one like Gael Monfils

Man, myth, mystery, legend: Gael Monfils.

The Frenchman played his last Roland-Garros match on Monday, leaving his heart on Court Philippe-Chatrier for the last time at the end of a five-set loss to compatriot Hugo Gaston.

As is so often the case with Monfils, Monday night's spectacle was about so much more than tennis. With a crowd of 15,000 chanting his name as the clock struck midnight, Monfils took the mic and paid tribute to his wife Elina Svitolina, reducing her to tears as he emptied his heart for her.

“We've been together eight beautiful years, you have supported me, raised me up, loved me, and you gave me the greatest gift in our daughter,” he said. “I love you.”

Althea Gibson by Billie Jean King

As the first Black woman to win a Grand Slam, Althea Gibson helped break down racial barriers in tennis during the time of segregation. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of this historic moment, Billie Jean King talks about her admiration for this amazing woman.

The first question is more about your memories of Althea: would you share the story of when you first saw her?

Billie Jean King:
I think I saw Althea Gibson on the Grandstand Court at the Los Angeles Tennis Club when I was 13 [in 1956]. I had already been playing for two years and I wanted to become World No.1. I knew that she was No.1, so I wanted to see what a No.1 looked like. And when I saw her, I was amazed! I was like “oh gosh, I don’t know if I could ever get that good!”.

My parents always emphasized that each generation gets better, but I couldn’t imagine being better than Althea! But I had read everything about her and then, in 1958, she wrote her book “I Always Wanted To Be Somebody” so I kept that book in bed next to me. Reading it over, and over, and over again, and just reading anything I can get my hands on about her. It was just amazing that I got to get to know her for the rest of her life and up to her death. She became a really good friend. For many years, she wouldn’t see anybody, but then she allowed Zina Garrison and me to come and see her at East Orange, New Jersey, where she lived. I’ve had a very long relationship with her, and I know about what she accomplished. Her book is fantastic and I always remember reading in it: “You can’t eat your trophies”, because she was trying to figure out how to make a living.

“Took My Earpiece Out” – Sloane Stephens Devastated by Hailey Baptiste’s Horror French Open Injury

Sloane Stephens reacted with heartbreak to the news of Hailey Baptiste’s devastating leg injury that occurred during her bout against Wang Xiyu at the 2026 Roland Garros. The injuy pushed Baptiste to tears and ultimately made her retire during the second round. The entire tennis community has now rallied behind the hope of seeing Baptiste successfully recover from the setback and wishes to see her back on the court soon.

The No. 26-seeded Baptiste walked onto Court 6 to play her second-round match against Xiya Wang on Wednesday. Wang took control right from the start by breaking the American’s serve early. With the score at 5-4 in favor of the Chinese, disaster struck for Baptiste, who went for a jumping forehand but awkwardly landed on the ground. The American’s left knee took the brunt of the fall, prompting Baptiste to collapse backwards.

The gruesome hit led her to tears and screams as her dad tried to get to her by jumping off the stands, but was ultimately stopped by security. The umpire called for an immediate medical check as Baptiste lay sobbing, while Wang also went ahead to check on her opponent. After a brief examination, the American was put in a wheelchair with a towel wrapped around her face and escorted to a medical facility.

‘Cannot Believe’ – Jannik Sinner Stuns Tennis World With ‘Sad’ French Open Exit After Physical Collapse‘Cannot Believe’ – Jannik Sinner Stuns Tennis World With ‘Sad’ French Open Exit After Physical Collapse

The stage appeared perfectly set for Jannik Sinner to complete the Career Grand Slam at the 2026 French Open. The Italian arrived in Paris riding a wave of dominance after sweeping all three clay-court Masters 1000 events, while two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the Major due to a wrist injury.

However, in one of the biggest shocks of the season, the world No. 1 stunned the tennis community by crashing out of the Major in the second round, undone by a dramatic collapse brought on by physical struggles in the brutal Paris heat.

Sinner appeared firmly in control at the start of his second-round clash against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, rushing to a 6-3, 6-2, 5-1 lead. Even though victory was just one game away, he began to show signs of struggle and failed to serve out the match on two occasions. At 5-4 (0-40) in the third set, the Italian brought play to a halt and accepted the option of a medical timeout offered by chair umpire Aurélie Tourte.

Sinner left the court to receive treatment after complaining about dizziness and nausea, and he looked far from his best when he returned. Cerúndolo capitalized on the 24-year-old’s struggles, dominating the remainder of the match to clinch a 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 victory. In the process, Cerúndolo snapped the world No. 1’s 30-match winning streak and pulled off the biggest upset of the season so far.

Fonseca thunders past Djokovic 👍 👍 👍

With Roland-Garros still reverberating from Jannik Sinner’s early exit on Day 5, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic took to Court Philippe-Chatrier on a sun-splashed afternoon as the only former Grand Slam champion remaining in the men’s singles draw.

With nightfall approaching, after nearly five hours of grinding tennis with Brazilian upstart Joao Fonseca, the three-time champion was sent packing as well.

In an epic four hour and 53-minute tussle that had 15,000 fans on the edge of their seats for the duration, Djokovic couldn't contain the dynamic Brazilian and fell in five dramatic sets, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5.

"I just played, I just enjoyed, and what a pleasure it was," Fonseca said.
