Rihanna draws criticism for songs with Brown

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rihanna is known for making bold statements, from her often sexually charged music to her tattoos to even the hue of her hair.

But her latest decision — a musical pairing with the man who three years ago left her bloodied and bruised — has left some questioning her judgment.

On Monday, after days of teasing, Rihanna and Chris Brown debuted two songs featuring each other. Brown sings and raps on the remix of Rihanna's sexually charged song "Birthday Cake," and she appears on a new version of his upbeat tune "Turn up the Music."

Fans have been split about the topic: Some support Rihanna and Brown's collaborations, others condemn it. The topic was still trending on Twitter on late Tuesday, with plenty of tweets criticizing Rihanna for embracing her former abuser.

Rihanna seemed to address the controversy Tuesday when she won best international female artist at the Brit Awards.

"At times when I feel misunderstood, my fans always remind me that it's OK to be myself," Rihanna said.

Why folks won't get a life and leave other folks business alone amazes me. Are Americans really this miserable that other folks relationships always bother them?

Wasnt there a discussion on who would be hurt the more after all this?

Since then, he's returned to the top of the music charts, releasing a slew of hit songs and the album "F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies)," which won him his first Grammy this month. He also made his physical return to the Grammys, the same night Rihanna performed (the restraining order is no longer in effect). Brown performed twice at the show, which drew criticism.

But now Rihanna may face criticism as well. Werde, who expects the songs to find success, says he doesn't believe she'll lose any of her endorsements, but adds that image could change.

She knows that Chris is hot right now and she's trying to regain that magic by grabbing his coat tail.

Chris got to be one of the biggest dummies walking God's green earth.
Pops, he's just doing songs with her. He's not having kids with her. LOL!!!!!!!!! And they're probably are not even in the same sound room. He's probably doing his track/verses at his house and sending the master tape over to her studios.

To get millions back while showing the world that it wasnt me, but her? Probably.

Folks don't understand how money works. This is something other cultures learn at birth, but not us. It is never personal when it comes to making millions. Only in our community do we hold grudges which in turns hurts our pockets. Business and personal feelings don't mix when making money.

Chris doesn't need her to make that money though. That is the difference. It actually hurts him more and is a bigger risk.

I gotta agree with Cee on this one. Folks need to mind their own business. Bottom line is, Rihanna and Chris's collaboration is about money, plain and simple.

Pops, money is money. And one thing you'll find from a millionaire/billionaire is that you will never have too much money. Hell, he's just making songs with her. People acting like they're dating, engaged, and about to have a family all in one.

I mean, if Cash Money Millionaires can get back together to make some songs, why cant C. Brown and Rihanna?

I'm with Pops on this one. It's a known fact that Rhianna has been more of a liability to Chris Brown than an asset. It may be about money, or it may be about business, but at one point you have to use common sense and look at the bigger picture. Chris Brown has true talent (he can sing, dance, writes his own songs, writes songs for other artists, acting, modeling, etc). If it is all about money/business, there are too many other talented artists in the industry he can collaborate with.......if I were him, I wouldn't take a risk on something that I'd know to backfire & could ultimately destroy what I so worked hard to regain/rebuild. Forgive her, be polite, speak, wave, whatever, but stay away from her.....she's a liability.

Amen, if they want to get back together, let them. Who's to say they haven't matured? Even if they haven't it's nobody's business but theirs.

In life you only have one shot to make it big. It is rare you get two chances. You better get it while you can.

Most rich people don't like each other, but they make deals about money everyday.

I agree. This is such NON-news it ain't even funny. I even heard an anchor on one of the news networks ask, "What message does this send out to our young people?" I was like woman (wit yo fine ass) if you don't get off da news set with that BS...

I guess it would be one thing if the news was that they were dating again...but that ain't case. They made a couple of freakin' songs together. As it was said, they probably were never in the studio at the same time when it was done. It's funny how we preach to "forgive and forget", but then we have a problem with the results when that concept is practiced.

And to Cee's point about how rich people don't like each other but make deals...its true. If one didn't know any better you'd swear up and down that the folks at FOX and NBC can't stand each other. Yet the parent companies both operations have over 30% ownership of this company----> CLICK HERE

I don't think this is about the big picture. This is about the bottom line (ie. money). Apparently, Chris Brown nor Rihanna give a flying flip about what their fans/haters think about this collaboration or the opinions of their "image". The fans' minds are made up about this anyway.

They know that whether the fans approve this situation or not, their music is gonna sell. Fools will continue to talk crazy about them, but that won't stop them from buying their music. If there's money to be made, then make that money. Leave the personal stuff where it is. If they can do that, it's all good. If they can't, then it's still all good. Makes no difference to me whatsoever.
