Rev. James Cleveland

IMO, for some reason a lot Black Baptist churches tend to ignore homosexuality in the church, especially if the person can preach, sing, director, or play the piano. I saw this in Virginia when a person who was an instructor in theology and was also in-charge of ordaining ministers and deacons was gay. If the person ordaining people are gay, then more than likely, there are a great deal of those being ordain that are gay, which add to the list of false prophets.

Dahill,
I am only 25 but I love old school Gospel so I know what you mean. I go to a very nontraditional church and as soon as I get in the car after service, some lashun Page, timothy Wright, James Cleveland or Mississippi Mass is going on. I miss Southern Baptist churches...

Man, that's one thing I miss about Mississippi. The souther gospel music is really good. They play a lot of the old-school music. In the DMV, you hear a lot of the contemporary gospel which is ok. I prefer the ole-school more.

I know you are in Northern Virginia, but if you ever get a chance to visit Central Virginia, go checkout St. Paul Baptist Church in Forest, VA, which is in Bedford County just outside of Lynchburg. This church is very similar to a Southern Baptist Church with a lot of old school gospel singing. The church's pastor is Rev. Brown and he grew-up in Monroe, LA. I believe his uncle is a pastor of a church in Winnsboro, LA. Also, Rev. Brown and his wife both graduated from Grambling. Also, the only Black on Lynchburg's City Council is a pastor of a church in Lynchburg and he is a Alcorn graduate, but I've never heard him preach

I'm over in Maryland, but work in Northern VA! If I'm ever down there and I stay over the weekend, I will check out the church.

None of this really shocks me. I think it surprises and shocks people when we have place people on a "pedestal" and act as if they can do no wrong just because they are singing the gospel, so to speak. They are HUMAN. I've stop placing people on a "pedestal" a long time ago because of an incident that occurred at a church that I attended. I was an usher at a concert that was held at a church once, I escorted this well known male gospel singer (I will not name) from middle of the sanctuary to restroom. From the time I escorted him from the middle of the sanctuary to the restroom, he used every profane word that is known to man because he wasn't satisfied the way he had been treated that day. My mind was blown away because this was the same person that "worshipped and praised God" and supposedly "ushered the presence of Lord" into the sanctuary. :retard: I haven't been able to listen to his music since that incident. I change the radio station when his songs are played.
