1-1 bottom of the 4. JSU just walked on in with full bases. bases are still full. MSU is forced to do a pitcher change. the current MSU pitcher is a 5yr senior. MSU has called up their relieve pitch J. Holder. JSU could take the lead soon.

not this time. 3 outs, JSU back on defense.
Holder is their closer....Wow!!!

OMG The double play was right there. Come on JSU. damn

3-1 State

Going to bottom 7th.

Settle down JSU

That closer is something serious. They can't hit anything.

I hope they take him out lol

Going to top 7th. JSU did have a runner on 1st with 1 out. Didn't get him in.

Do you hear the ms state fans yelling at the ump about Russell....."slow him down blue!!! he's going too fast!!"

Then they had one "heffa" in the stand yelling like a coyote in heat early on when Holder came in on almost all of his first several pitches. :emlaugh:

Nobody expected JSU to have played those two games as well as they did. MSU's closer did what he's supposed to do - came in and shut JSU down. Y'all saw why that guy leads the nation in saves over the past two years. Very few teams have done anything against him.

JSU still has the opportunity to do some damage. I wonder if Kendrick still believes a team only needs two starters, a reliever and a closer. Because, with a good performance from a third starter, JSU could shock the world.

"Po" DCG  :emlaugh:

th

We already know. To beat the top seed at their place in front of a sellout crowd speaks for itself.

I guess today must not have been a sellout crowd:swink:

No I didn't dumb dumb see I go to baseball tournment unlike the rest of you busters! I call it by rounds/weeks stupid!

I know you're embarrassed. When you tell one lie, you have to tell another one (you should have been taught that a long time ago). Don't worry about, "it too will pass." :emlaugh:

Wow. Don't listen to whoever is saying that.

State played for the national championship last year primarily because of the strength and depth of their bullpen.

It's true that they'll save Ross Mitchell, Jacob Lindgren and Jonathan Holder for a possible match up with ULL. Mitchell is one of the best starting pitchers in the country. Lindgren is arguably the best middle reliever in the country and Holder is arguably the best closer in the country.

However, State has seven or eight guys other than them that are as good or better than Desmond Russell. The mid-week guys and even the true freshmen that sit on the bench and rarely get to pitch are more talented than anybody JSU has. If MSU loses to JSU, it won't be because they ran out of arms. They have much more than 1 or 2 good pitchers left.

So you still think all of MSU's pitchers are better than Russell? The MSU coach doesn't seem to think so. Russell could easily have been the winner minus a few unlucky bounces while MSU's starter couldn't even get out of the 3rd inning. Russell pitched a complete game and had MSU on the ropes most of the game.

Today is where the pitching strategy begins for the home stretch. Mississippi State is in good shape having not thrown their 1&2 yet. Louisiana has a big decision to make today on who will they throw @ Jackson State. I know ULL has saved Boutte and that is the only "high profile" pitcher they have left though I'm sure they have other arms. They may want to gamble against JSU with hopes of throwing Boutte at Mississippi State. Omar seems to be pleased that he only had to use 3 arms. Whomever wins will have pure hell beating State twice. This is normally the point where pitching depth has hindered programs. Let the games begin!

Totally different. SU scored enough runs to win that game.

Agree....The other thing I have thought about this weekend is the current format. I remember S.U. had to play that 3rd game the very same day. In this current format at least the teams don't have to play their 3rd game in the same day as the second one.....

That SU team had enough offense to win the College World series. SU lead the NCAA in batting average, runs scored, and multiple other category. SU had arms and a lot of them were drafted, but SU was one starter away from winning a regional.
