Ranking SWAC Football Programs

I agree with you, he'll TSU should have been #10. I remember valley kicking our but plenty of times. The thing to remember is even at # 10 TSU gets the same participation trophy jsu gets. Some of these Sippi posters are really on some good stuff.

But we didn't get the same azz whoopins you got! Big difference.

I would note coaching changes to shed some light into stability/instability of programs. I would also note years where the team was under NCAA sanctions

But again, every team has those issues... AAMU might be the only one.. and also your theory is flawed on the simple fact that UAPBs coach been there the longest and all he been doing is losing ....

I agree. SCG wins should be weighted more. That would bump you up to #5 or 4.

I dont agree.. they had FOUR winning seasons in 10 years. If the range is 10 years, you can't make it about right now. I think 10 is a good number but most of these people want to see ~5 years to reflect what they see present day. That's fine ... just off topic.. lol

that's exactly where I'd put Alcorn 4th or 5th. It looks ridiculous seeing one of two teams with multiple championships and a around .500 win loss ratio be near the bottom. Just doesn't add up.

I see stuff like this as nothing more than down time filler. According to this ranking, Alcorn is 6th, but if anybody says that they wouldn't want their team to have done what Alcorn has done in the last 2 years (2 titles), then they're lying. Sorry, to me, that's worth way more than who may have won 10 years ago.

carry on....

This is not about who won 10 years ago..

Its about who has been the most consistent over a 10 year period.

Dude, you don't have but two titles. You acting like you have 3 or 4. Then I could see your point... lol

You have two titles and SIX.. yes, SIX losing seasons in 10 years. The only reason you not 8 or 9 is that you DID win the titles.. so you got some credit for the championships.

who else on the list has 2 titles?

2 ain't much more than one....
Who else had SIX losing seasons.

if you didn't spend over half a decade losing, then those two can prop u up better. The only thing they could do is raise you from the cellar to the middle of the pack..

Umm jayblue, If you aint figured out by now that TP's rants actually humor people and not rile them up, then the "emotionally challenged" one might be the person you see in the mirror.

TP,
Too bad tierre upstaged you and did this ranking before the precision poll could think of it. Lmao!!

I did this poll 2 years ago but I didn't post it. Alcorn was #9 only ahead of Valley then when we won the SWAC in 14 and 15 we leap frog Texas Southern and UAPB. This years poll first thru 3rd place was easy and 7-10 was easy. Alabama St., Prairie View, and AAMU was very hard to do because Alabama St. has been the most consistent of all 3 but only has 1 Division title to show for it. AAMU has 3 division titles and won the SWAC in 2006 but had just finished their 3rd losing season in a row. Prairie View has 5 winning seasons but has only won the division and the SWAC once. There was also big difference in 10th place and 9th place being that Valley could still win the SWAC next year and still be in last place. UAPB could also win the SWAC next year and couldn't move past Alcorn.

The best thing to do, however, would be to weight each win. Obviously, the SCG gets weighted higher. Then conference games after that. Then out of conference FCS, then out of conference D2's, NAIA's and so forth.
Weighting the wins is the most accurate measurement.
For instance,
3 pts for an SCG win
1.5 pts for an SCG loss (Basically bonus pts for winning the division)
1.5 pts for each SWAC win
1 pt for each out of conference FCS win
.75 pts for a D2 win
.5 pts for others
-1 pt for a D2 loss
-2 pts for teams less than D2

Take those points and tally them up over the past decade and tally them up, and you have an accurate number. Teams should not be rewarded as much for beating VUL's and Ed Waters and who ever else.

i didn't need a poll to tell me how JSU has been over the last 10 years... We have been the second most successful program in the conference and JSU fans are NOT happy about it. We want to be #1. Now, why we hired OMJ is a mystery.. LOL but we should be back to our azz kickin ways real soon.

Bruh.. no need to explain to these people. It's your system. They used to always ask how I did the Precision Poll. .it wasn't their business. You did a great job! Would be nice to see this yearly.

I remember a lot of years where the topic of discussion was how the East was Soooo week but for 1 maybe 2 teams while the west was a dog fight. Any way to factor that into the rankings? No one can deny for a while the east was a 1 or 2 school lock.

Man, y'all overcomplicating things....

Ultimate measurement of success is win/loss record and winning percentage. Championships and what not don't need any extra weight. They are interesting side notes, but not the ultimate measurement of success over a certain period of time. Wins and losses show program stability through APR sanctions, coaching changes, etc.

Like Alcorn, for instance. Yes, they won back-to-back championships. But they had six losing seasons during the time period. Yeah, we can look at those championships, but we can't ignore those six subpar seasons as well.

Southern had the end of Pete Richardson/Stump Mitchell years. We can look at 2013 and 2014, but we can't ignore the years that came before that.

Not when you play the same teams.. Also, that was like so 2009. The EAST been the strongest for the last 4-5 years...

How? Alcorn won back to back championships!! Do you understand? East like 12-5 or 12-6 in against west in championships? How?!!! Smh

So with these last 2 wins Alcorn saved the east? Well it still pretty lopsided, so they didn't save them but granted the east a stay. That dang west over east in championships throws a monkey wrench in much of this discussion.

It doesn't make a difference when all the teams play each other. The same teams you played in the West, we played them too. So looking at things from a Win/ Loss perspective, it makes no difference.
