Ranking SWAC Football Programs

I ranked all the SWAC football programs for the last ten years (2006-2015) to see where I felt the programs were ranked. I ranked teams almost like APR. One good year wasn't going to change much nor was one bad year. How would you ranked the programs in the SWAC and do you feel your school was right on, lower, or higher than I had it rated.

1st Grambling
(7 Winning Seasons, 3 Losing Seasons, 4 Division Champs, 2 SWAC Champs)

2nd Jackson St.
(7 Winning Seasons, 3 Losing Seasons, 4 Division Champs, 1 SWAC Champs)

3rd Southern
(6 Winning Seasons, 4 Losing Seasons, 2 Division Champs, 1 SWAC Champs)

4th AAMU
(5 Winning Seasons, 5 Losing Seasons, 3 Division Champs, 1 SWAC Champs)

5th Prairie View
(5 Winning Seasons, 2 500 seasons, 3 losing seasons, 1 Division Champs, 1 SWAC Champs)

6th Alabama St.
(6 Winning Seasons, 4 Losing Seasons, 1 Division Champs, 0 SWAC Champs)

7th Alcorn
(4 Winning Seasons, 6 Losing Seasons, 2 Division Champs, 2 SWAC Champs)

8th UAPB
(3 Winning Seasons, 7 Losing Seasons, 2 Division Champs, 1 SWAC Champs)

9th Texas Southern
(2 Winning Seasons, 8 Losing Seasons, 1 Division Champs, 1 SWAC Champs)

10th MVSU
(1 Winning Season, 9 Losing Seasons, 0 Division Champs, 0 SWAC Champs)

Very nice list and unbiased!. I'd move alcorn up tho... winning two scg is nothing to sneeze at and it trumps losing seasons. I'd switch aamu and alcorn.

Great work. Not a bad ranking at all. Only thing I would factor in for all teams would be 1 SWAC Championship cancels out one losing season. But overall a damn good job.

The logic of not bumping a team up because of a championship is sound. Winning seasons usually end with championships.

Tierre went with win/loss records, ultimately how programs are judged. Good work

Good list.

Numbers don't lie.

Now watch "someone" will come in and state that a "certain" team was the best team based on talent, stats, etc....while incorporating the "what if" scenario as the bases of their theory.....in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...... LOL

You're such the hater LMAO. Actually this assists TP in what he's been saying.

WAIT.. HIS list is what I beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen saying but ummm, I guess since this didn't come from TP....

I would add weight for winning championships.

I disagree. If you do that, you should also reduce weight for losing seasons. The way he did it is the only fair way to do it. Who cares if you won a championship if you can barely get a winning seasons most years?

Right. Like you said, in terms of wins /losses we are right under gram and according to this list I agree with your statement that I wouldn't trade places with any other swac school.

Did you see his calculation? How do you know "the way he did it"? LOL

I don't.... so I stand corrected but you have a system that adds and does not deduct unless a losing season is zero... and if you give championships a point extra, you need to also compensate for divisional crowns...

I see stuff like this as nothing more than down time filler. According to this ranking, Alcorn is 6th, but if anybody says that they wouldn't want their team to have done what Alcorn has done in the last 2 years (2 titles), then they're lying. Sorry, to me, that's worth way more than who may have won 10 years ago.

carry on....

Thanks.. the ONLY school that has been doing as well as JSU on a consistent basis is GSU. GSU also cost us a Black National Championship on top of all the azz whoopings they give us. Hughes is going to really be judged on how well he matches up with GSU and TNState along with his ability to win the SWAC every 3 years (on average). To be a complete JSU coach, you need to accomplish those things.

We have the right to agree or disagree but I wouldn't want to trade places with Alcorn. At the end of the day, they are STILL Alcorn. Let's do this 10 years from now and see if they are higher than #6. I don't care what a team did for one or two years. I want a good team EVERY year.

However you may feel about Alcorn, the fact remains that they have won the last 2 SWAC titles. Are you saying that you "wouldn't want to trade places" and have seen JSU win the last 2 SWAC titles?

You are lying. JSU won the title in 2006, which is 10 years ago. If Tierre does this ranking again next season that lone title falls off. Are you saying you'd still rank JSU that far above Alcorn in this ranking?

#1. I supported Alcorn. I wanted to see them win. They are no long term threat to JSU. I went to Houston both years to support them with the rest of my fam. Alcorn is not on JSU's level so when they do good, i am happy for them.
#2. Of course, I would have LOVED to win the SWAC last year and the year before that and the year before that.. but...
#3. This topic is NOT about the last two years. I would take JSU's last 10 years over Alcorn's last 10.
#4. IF this was about the last 2-3 years.. or maybe even the last 5 years, I might want to trade places with Alcorn. However, the topic is 10.
