How I see it.
1. SU: Clicking on all cyclinders. Next test in Bayou Classic
2: GSU: Will have to find a RB to complement Eugene
3. ASU: Not flashy but best in the East
4. AAMU: Living and dying by their running game
5. Alcorn: Trying to turn the corner
6. JSU: Will not win a game in October
7. TSU: Coach should be fired
8. UAPB: Coach should be fired
9. MVSU: What happened this year?
10. PVU: Still a couple years from being respectable
 
Looks like a good analysis. JSU has lost a lot of defensive personnel with people quitting in the off season and season ending injuries this year. However, we are Jackson State. Don't slip. I watched the TNState game for the first time last night and although we have lost a lot of our defense, I saw where the right calls in the red zone (we were there 5 times in first half) could have meant a different outcome. This team can still move the ball.

Alcorn should not be ahead of JSU at this point.

MH, I did not see the ASU game and I realize that the first half was :( for JSU but from what I could tell JSU out played and outmanned you the second half. We moved the ball and played well except for one defensive series outscoring you 20-7. The special teams need help that Bell can't correct until he gets some kickers. Those are Hughes kickers. I can't see how you can be too proud being up 20-0 and crawling out of Memorial trying to hang on to a 27-20 win.

Also, you guys won't beat AAMU so this race is still wide open.

Since this is the sports board, I'll just leave it at this and this is the absolute TRUTH.

ASU is way better than JSU. Our offense is better. Our defense is better. Our special teams are better. We manhandled you. You can try to find a silver lining if you want (by breaking it down to the 2nd half, when ASU obviously was coasting) But even then, we were blowing you off the line and picking up huge yards. We ran for 250+ yards, for goodness sake. We're clearly better than you. That's not even in question.

besides, my initial comment was not even based on the ASU/JSU game. I just shook my head because you would actually make a comment about a game you lost 44-14!

btw, don't you think it's so sad that of all schools, you're now having to ride A&M's fuzzies to try to back door it to the SCG.


I've seen your team bruh. FORGET ABOUT THE SCG and concentrate on trying to win more than 3 games this year!
 
I will only comment about Grambling. A lot of discussion has been made about the lack of a running game. Now that we are playing the weaker opponents that others played earlier, look to see more emphasis on the running game. Against PV and Valley, our two young backs Ab Kauaan and Henry Tolbert have both stepped up. Both have shown that they can catch the ball out of the backfield and run out of the spread formation. I especially like the way Kauaan can either make people miss or break tackles.

I criticized Doug for not using the backs previously, but looks like he had a plan all alone. His offensive line (also young with 3 new starter...newcomers that redshirted last year) has jelled and appear to be good run blockers. Granted the competition can be questioned, but this is a good chance to work on that aspect of the game. I think folk are gonna see some good numbers from Kauaan and Tolbert for the rest of the season.

Did you see the JSU-TNState game?? I have not seen the second half... I only got as far as the soaking wet J-Settes at halftime but the first half was all JSU.
 
How I see it:

1t. Southern
3t. Alabama A&M
3t. Alabama State

8. Arkansas-Pine Bluff
9. Mississippi Valley
10. Prarie View


At this point I have no reason to believe either Grambling or Southern should be sitting alone at the top. This is a ranking and not a poll. In a poll, I would give Southern the nod.

Grambling and Southern have point differentials of 35 and 37, respectively, against their SWAC opponents. This makes it too close to call using point differential to determine who is best. And even though Southern has an undefeated record, they and Grambling have not played the exact same schedule. Take McNeese and San Jose off of the schedule and add a couple of average 1-AA opponents and you're looking at an undefeated Grambling team (and please, dont take this as smack. im just making a point about Grambling's schedule).

Alabama A&M and Alabama State are right on par with each other although I am inclined to give A&M the edge because I saw ASU in person and they looked awful.

Alcorn State: I expected better. That 49-28 loss to ASU sticks out in my mind.

Jackson State: What a difference a coach makes.

Texas Southern: C-Leb is my hero. Bill must go.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff: Vinita is my other hero. Bucky must go.

Mississippi Valley: Totten, no more press conferences before the season. the Satellite is not in orbit.

Prarie View: 45-31 over Paul Quinn. Nuff Said!!!

The GPI is an objective mix of computer ratings and poll rankings for all 123 I-AA teams. It is done each week throughout the season. The GPI this week, 10/15 (preliminary) ranks the SWAC like this:

Computer rankings are based on polls, and polls are based on opinions. I understand how you come up with these numbers. My question to you is, do you believe that Grambling and Southern are the #20 and #41 teams in the country?

Actually, computer ratings are based on a formula which does not include polls. Polls are based on voters opinions. That's why you see poll rankings varying widely from ratings. Ratings are objective, polls are subjective. So to answer whether I believe the GPI is correct I would say it is probably more correct than any poll. #20 Southern and #41 Grambling are probably pretty accurate.

Check out these variances from the Sports Network I-AA poll and the GPI which were posted on another board:
