Question regarding the Turkey Day Classic....

since everyone does not go on both the sports and the band boards I will post this in both.............

I have never attended this legendary Oldest Black HBCU classic. I will be there I hope next Thursday. I wanted to know for those that have been. What is the atmosphere like. What do i need to look out for....ETC

Don't know if i will make the parade....But working on on it................

then I am rolling out to the 2007 Bayou Classic.......

It's like a friendly family environment when the TDC comes around. The game is always competitive. Some of the local high school bands from the parade are seating behind the endzone. Umm, I'm sure somebody else can add on to this.

1SGT,

The TDC is a lot like the MCC only on a much smaller scale. While the MCC has climbed to nearly 70,000 in attendance, the TDC will likely have around 25,000. The tailgating is very, very nice and the amount of vendors there rivals the MCC.

Like Sting said, its a very family-friendly atmosphere that is rich in history and tradition. If you can, check out the parade. Its one of the oldest, largest and best HBCU parades around. The weather is normally nice (it'll probably storm just because I said that  ) so there should be lots of opportunities for you to take pictures.

I'll post a link to TDC activities.

Enjoy.

I haven't been to a TDC in about three or four years. I always enjoyed the parade and the game (though we lost too much). Crampton Bowl is much smaller than Legion Field, but it is packed! It is a great thing to do on Thanksgiving (Eat at home or with family and stroll to the game).
The ASU vs Tuskegee rivalry is just as heated as ASU vs A&M IMHO.

most Bama State alumni and students I know dont go. They call it the old folks classic and have told me that most students go home and that the game is filled with alot of older alumni.

beans, the name is The Turkey Day Classic.

Students referring to it as Old Folks Classic (thats a new one on me) is about as "shameful" as us tspn folks referring to Jsu's game against Alcorn as The Soul Glo Bowl or the Curls, Curls, Curls Classic (thanks Biff)

:lmao: :lmao:

Evidently you all miss the point. Calling it an "Old Folks Classic" isnt a shame to you guys?

DaHill stated that it was people that he knew that attended ASU that stated that. This game helps bring back all of those, who once attended ASU (no matter what age, color, or race. If that's the way that the people that Dahill associates with feel, then that's fine and that's their opinion. So don't go assuming that everybody feels that way.

Hey, if you all are cool with it, then cool by me. These are "future" alumni that are responding this way to their game, not some internet fan club from different schools talking about a sister school game. What happens when these "future" alumni grow up and the older generation dies out?

Naw it's not a shame. :whatever:  In a way, it's the truth- TDC is mostly the older alumni and da locals IMO........but I understand and respect the tradition (I mean, who else can say that their homecoming is a Classic? And not to mention the oldest classic? :D).

Even though I don't go EVERY year, I make it a point to go when I can simply because I'm not from da Gump, I'm from Columbus and that's where my family is at. Either way, even with other alumni/students having that same attitude, Crampton Bowl is going to be packed REGARDLESS.

Anyway, I'll be there Tuesday night. :jump: :D

ummmm, beans

the TDC is the oldest classic in bcf.

Whether some students Dahill know go home or not isnt that big of a deal.
Heck, when I was an undergrad, for a couple of years, I went home and missed TDC too.
But don't think that all students go home. And the students who are going home, in a few years, they will be the alumni who'll be "coming home" for Homecoming.

but I understand and respect the tradition (I mean, who else can say that their homecoming is a Classic? And not to mention the oldest classic? :D).

And that is all I'm saying right there. Do these kids know and appreciate this kind of tradition and to appreciate it enough to pass it on to their kids and future kids to keep the tradition going? That's all Im sayin. And callin it an "Old Folks Classic" doesnt sound like they respect or even appreciate this tradition.

.....first time hearing this one.

:lmao:

I've been to the TDC only one time (2004), and it seemed to me that the "majority" of the crowd (and it was PACKED) was a bunch of Bama State & Tuskegee Alumni that live in Montgomery or lived somewhere outside the area. The game was cool; I sat on Skegee side and their fans were off tha chain. They remind me of our SWAC brotheren fans like SU & JSU....just wild, loud, drunk, and crazy LOL!

The game atmosphere as a whole including the tailgate was on the level of a Mini-MCC

Um You do realize that the TDC is the oldest HBCU Classic, right? Evidently none of the Alums and/or "future" alums (as you call them) are not thinking like you are assuming they are. Now can you tell me how do you know how the "future" alumni are thinking? Have you ever attended one TDC or are you just trying to use what DaHill said and run with it?

I know lots of college grads that don't to their homecoming games, including ones from A&M, other SWAC schools, Big Ten, Ivy and Atlantic 10. Unfortunately even more who don't give to their college. :smh:

No shame here.

I went from elementary school all the way through college.

Not at all Beans. When I was a student I called it the same thing.

When an 18 or 19 year old witnesses alumni from BOTH Universities (your GRANDPARENTS age) HYPE as HELL wearing greek letters, laughing, drinking, fellowshiping, and illustrating the ultimate in school spirit, it makes you realize how special it is to them.

The TDC is unlike any other classic. Of course many students go home silly. It's Thanksgiving. The kids want to be with thier loved ones during the holidays. Because it's played on a major holiday...some of the kids are probably homesick. As said earlier, it's a smaller version of the Magic City Classic.....but has a more "personal" flava to it. That's why I could never attend the Bayou Classic as a student. It was always played the FOLLOWING saturday after Thanksgiving. By then I was hype about getting out of that band uniform and going to see my family.

Ok.....so Dahill tells you what SOME people he knows calls it that. You immediately assume he speaks for THOUSANDS? Come on mayne. See PsiSnake's reply. He basically sums it up in a nutshell.

I knew this was coming :smh: Someone always have to say something negative - - - It's homecoming for A.S.U. so you gonna have a lot of so called old folks there.
