Queen Latifah Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

First I'd like to congratulate Latifah for getting a Star on the WOF, but how in the world, does she beat Will Smith on there? Not to hate, because it's quite an honor to be on there, especially seeing that a letter writing campaign had to be done to get Marvin Gaye on there, when former Entertainment Tonight Host, and contemporary jazz artist John Tess had one on there before Marving, but for her to be the first hip hop artist/actor is somewhat strange, seeing that Will has accomplished so much more?

Their credentials are somewhat equal, but I think Will is the bigger star of the 2. Both have been nominated for Academy Awards, though Will was for Best Actor, and Latifah in a supporting role, both have had television shows, with Will having the longer run, and TFPOB still being in syndication, and Will has sold more records, and his movies have done monster business at the box office.

Again, no knock on the Queen, but I just think Will is more deserving. Hopefully he'll be there soon, as well as Ice Cube.

I like both Queen and Will.
But I do have to say that Queen is more visible in the industry right now.
In addition to all you've named, she's also the spokesperson for Pizza Hut; she's a Cover Girl model, and you see those commericials all the time. And she's had two Wal-mart holiday commercials. Her TV shows are also in syndication; Living Single is on the Oxygen Network everyday and probably others networks, too.
She's also stepped out and made a jazz CD.

But when it comes it comes to movies, Will does have better movies though.

I'own know if I agree with her getting one this soon...ESPECIALLY since Will Smith (not to mention other more deserving AA stars) doesn't have one.


Does Don Cheadle have one yet???? :xeye:
 
These Stars on the Walk of Fame seem to coincide with movie/album/baby releases all the time. The Olsen twins got theirs when their movie came out last year. Britney Spears got one when her last album dropped.

It's all timing and money. I might buy me one in a few years.
 
I too like Latifah, but she has one and Will Smith is missing from the Walk of Fame??? That ain't right. Will is a bigger star than the Queen.

I remember seeing them all when I had to travel to Cali for my job a few years back.

That's the ironic part.


Don't get me wrong...
She has one, so I am very happy for her.
I just question the fact that arguably more deserving brothas/sistas don't, that's all. :)

You do know these "star's" are not voted on or given out by any committee.

People, groups, etc, representing the "STAR" they want, petitions the organization, along with a couple thousand dollars to essentually buy a spot.

If Big Will want's one, he could have it next week if he want's.
 
Doesn't Latifah have an Oscar or tony or something? Maybe that is why she was pushed ahead of Will.

Sidenote: They are handing those stars like candy lately. Ryan Secrest got one recently. :confused:
 



Someone said it up there...I watched a program and it told us how STARS are given...it's all about PR...like they said it usually accompanies a big event in the STARS career...Maybe Will simply hasn't pushed for one, cause he could have one EASILY.
 
WOW, what great news for Queen...I love her. :tup: I wasn't aware that Will Smith didn't have one.

That's what I heard. Them "stars" ain't cheap either.
 
Queen has been in the public eye quite a bit over the past few years. I'm glad she got her star...she deserves it. I knew when "Living Single" premiered 12 years ago that she had a bright future ahead of her, that involved more than just music.
