PVAMU STUDENTS PROTEST

:uhoh: :uhoh: Video: Students call for appearance by school president

The financial aid office at Prairie View A&M is in chaos because of a new computer system that no one can seem to work.

KHOU-TV

Prairie View A&M students protested the financial aid office's delay in providing funds this semester.
The staff is frustrated and students are furious.

Some of them protested Monday in front of the administration building. More than a month after the start of classes many still haven't received their student loans.

"Paperwork is being lost," says sophomore Ebony Burton. "They say you haven't signed something when we know we have signed. People have copies of forms they have signed they show it to them. [They say] well we have no records."

A university spokeswoman acknowledged that it is not a good a situation and that the administration is working to fix the problem. The school is also planning a town hall meeting to address the students' concerns.

Did you check out the video I was like man these kids are serious.... They were truly upset!!!

Yeah I saw it. I feel there frustration. But on the other hand it teaches you that you have to plan ahead. I had problems like this when I didnt turn in info on time or if I turned it in too close to the deadline. So I just start planning waaaaaayyyyy ahead and my stuff was ok. Dealing with financial aid at PV i learn life lessons.

1. Plan ahead
2. Document everything
3. Keep copies of important information

Well I haven't seen the video either....but it seems to me that
the system should be in working order before it was needed.
Those students need their money. Period.

I would not call their protest ghetto.

50% of it was ghetto because they were all over the place screamiong and yelling even at the lady on the step.... The other 50% was because some of the words they were saying.... If you are going to protest it should be organized and done in a certain manner..... Just my opinion though.......

So Sheehan gettin arrested at the white house was ghetto also correct? When Greenpeace or whoever they are take over ships at sea and hang banners on them thats ghetto too right? When you see white folk protesting an abortion clinic and sometimes bombing them thats ghetto correct?

Do you see my point? Like any other group of protestors this group of students was enraged and with good reason. The lady on the step was infront of the administration building where the presidents office is if I am not mistaken. He was demanding that the president come out and speak.

Sheehan has turned into a publicity hound IMHO.

Are you saying that because your are for the war in Iraq?

Sheehan is no more a publicity hound than Martin Luther King, Jr. was.

Because she has made it known on a couple of occasion that she really didn't want the President to meet with her because it would "stop the movement". Also, she has taken the torch for causes that have nothing to do with the reason why she wanted to meet with the President in the first place. For example, she went to Maine to protest a Blue Angels air show. She also made dumb comments like Bush should "pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq". She has a right to disagree with the war. I just don't care for her methods.

But my question was is she "ghetto". Its one thing to not agree with her cause or approve of the methods she uses. But I don't see why one group of protestors chanting and screaming is just a group of protestors but these PV students were "ghetto".

Since this is about the PV protest, I will not stay on this one too long. However, she lost a son, and I have yet to hear Bush state the noble cause of why her son died. For that alone she has a right to protest. Her protest is effective.

Back to the PV situation.......

These are excellent points.

On the issue of the PV students, it was a little ghetto is how some of them where stomping around. Also, usually people chant the same thing in unison. If I didn't know what the story was about, I would have no ideal what they are protesting. I forgot what the picket signs said.

I have seen it both ways. Unison chants are not always the case at a protest. And for what these students are protestin for I imagine their tempers have flared beyond the point of relaxed chants. Without out going into detail let me say that this is not some problem that developed overnight. This has its roots in years of frustration over the same issue that seems to have just gotten worse.

I guess you'd have to have gone through what they are going through at the school to understand their rage.

A huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge publicity hound.

I haven't seen the video so I won't comment. Obviously we should've closed admission eons ago @ PVAMU so we don't attract the same "type" student that open-admission schools do. ;)

Carry on. :)

Ok I said it was ghetto and that is all that matter.... I remeber when we had the same problems in financial aid at Grambling and we did not act like this though..... I'm sorry but the cursing and all of that was not called for and how he was all in that lady face and swinging his hands was classless.... I truly understand it BP like I said I went through the same thing in Grambling my first semester but I made it through without all of that an ended up working in Finanical aid for 5 years.... But I guess this will be different in your eyes to..... Student leaders are they anywhee around this Protest??? We all know there is a right way to do thing and a wrong way and in my opinion they were wrong all that loud ghetto screaming. I'll be the first to tell you that I am ghetto so I am not trying to attack them in anyway.... But there is a way again that things should be done and I think it was ghetto and you know the media was going to show the worst of it........ STUDENTS LEADERS SEND HELP.....

I totally understand. When I was at State, we had our own issues with dorms (probably still do). There were protest, but nothing would ever change.

I don't know how things are at GSU so I cannot say your problems are better or worse just like you can't say you went through the same thing that these and other students have seen at PV. To tell the truth I would not be suprised if some of those students WERE the student leaders. Trust me when I say the less confrontational means of protest and complaint have most likely been exhausted now. If these students are in danger of having to stop their education because of a problem that the schools has yet to remedy even though they were aware then I imagine they would be drivin to the point of wanting to cuss. No one called mayor Nagin ghetto (at least no one that I recall here) for cursing about the FEMA response on national air waves. And they especially didn't call the Jefferson (I believe thats correct) Parish President ghetto when he said the exact same thing on national TV. But these students are ghetto :shame:

Actually I did not call them ghetto I called the Protest "Ghetto"...... I don't know them but I am sure that many of them are but that is not my job to place judgement on them....... I agree with you totally but it was mentioned earlier the media will point out the worst and that is what I think they did.... It was the first thing that cme to my mind..... BP I won't compare the two they are like apple and oranges to me.... But like somoene pointed out earlier how many of these students complaing met the dead lines????? Now I am real curios to knkow this and I will attempt to find out...

Who in the HELL asked your ARSE we are having a serious conversation and if you did not have anything intelligent to say then SHUT THE FUGG UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

you shouldn't ask questions that you don't want the answer to. You are incapable of having a serious discussion. Right off the bat, it was obvious you had other motives. Grambling is open admissions... is it not?
