“Reliant Stadium was not available because the Texans have home games scheduled for those weekends,” said TSU athletics director Dr. Charles McClelland. “We were informed by Reliant officials that Texas Southern would not be allowed to play on the field the day before a Texans’ game.”

TSU searched for a larger venue to host the Prairie View game, but Delmar was the largest stadium available for that date. The game was changed from the traditional Labor Day Classic because PV accepted an invitation to the MEAC/SWAC Challenge which is scheduled for September 4th. The short notice left TSU with limited options

Where have you been?

We've already talked about this in the stu schedule thread..

This is some bull, we were told back in 2002, that no one can play on that raggety put together field a day before the Texans game. We were forced to have the game next door at the Astrodome. However, the very next year 2003, Rice U. played Univ. of Texas on Sep. 20 and the Texans played Kansas City the next day same field. What's up with that?

How long have you lived in these United States? You know what's up.

LOL. You know the University of Texas got more pull than the Texans do. Probably told them we going to use your stadium and don't ask no questions.

Seriously, I wouldn't be shocked if some money exchanged for the use of the stadium. Wasn't Bob McNair on the Board of Trustee's at Rice at one point. I remember hearing he was a while back. So that would answer the question of why they got to use it.

State Fair Classic or Lone Star Classic :emlaugh:

Why no one will answer the Robertson question? Maggard is gone....Rudley can make a call....

You know how us Houston folks are....they see Delmar and will blow the game off for whatever reason....you play in Robertson they take it a little more serious as its comfortable there...histoey has proven people will come there

Can't someone from PV make the call to TxSU and ask them to call Robertson/U of H. I mean this game is a joint venture isn't it?

Stop whining and come and get what you should have gotten the last two years.

If PV wanted to play sTu in Reliant they should not have accepted the invite to the SWAC/MEAC. Now they get their butts whipped two weekends in a row.

tsu is a non-factor and was easily replaced with a more important game. Lets be real, the Labor Day Classic is the ONLY game that both of the tsu fans care about. Y'all should be honored that we even play you at all. If you're comfortable getting beat at a smaller venue like Delmar then thats fine with most Panthers.

This may be the biggest game on the calendar of the season for Texas Southern, particularly if they are unable to overcome the loss of 15 scholarships and limited practice time... is TSU-PV the opening salvo of a doubleheader at Delmar or the nightcap?

Texas Southern, which played for last year's SWAC football title, must give up nearly 15 football scholarships, while Jackson State lost half a dozen. Both of those schools will have their practice time reduced.

The crazy thing is that we will net more money at Delmar than if we played at Reliant.

That's true, just like what we did some years back with playing SU over at Tully.

ETT, They when to PVU and so you can't expect them to catch on to that....All they care about is whether or not they can sit in some air that weekend!

It was the folks at stu that kept us out of playing at Rice last year and we ended up back in Reliant. They wanted the air a lor more than we did.

But like I said before, I'll be over at the Berry Center watching my son play that evening.

Herb.....are you serious? Turn down a national TV game on opening weekend in Florida of all places where players get the experience of a lifetime against a MEAC Opponent? Are you really serious? :emlaugh:

Is Robertson available? Rice plays Purdue that day....

Shameful on TSU's part.

Oh Really:ebrow:

And lastly TT what will you be doing on that weekend in between twitting your thumbs hoping to have something to report so that anyone reading will be reminded that you are relevent to their dept. 15 loss scholarships huh oh really...are you absolutely sure about that:confused:...in that case the people at your place of employment already know your are irrelavent...I Just Saying!
