SAN BERNARDINO - Noah Rattler has seen the country in a way most people never do.

For the last four months, Rattler has walked halfway across America to raise awareness about homelessness.

He passed through San Bernardino on Sunday and planned to stay overnight in Ontario on his 1,800-mile journey that started March 24 in Houston, his hometown. He hopes to conclude his trek Saturday at the beach in Santa Monica.

"By doing this, I hope to spread the word that there are a lot of people out there who need our help," Rattler said Sunday morning before heading west on Foothill Boulevard toward Rialto.

Rattler, 29, is not homeless and has never lived on the streets.

But he learned firsthand about the plight of the homeless when started volunteering for a homeless assistance organization in 2005.
