Private or Public school?

Which do you think is better for kids? I work with some people who send their kids to this school that cost over 6000 a year. Is that the going rate?

That's less than I pay for Makayla's daycare. It is high out here at least the one's worth anything are expensive....

They use the same books...:) If your child is a bit advanced, they have gifted and talented Public Programs. The key is not the school...it's the HOME. Sit yo azz down with them every NIGHT and see that they not only do their homework, but that they understand it. You do that, they'll be fine no matter the school.

Long as I live in an area with great schools, that's what will be done at a public school. If I ever had to live back in Houma, my child would either be home schooled or put in a private school. A lot of the schools from their are good but some of them leave a lot to be desired.

My niece used to attend the "best" public school in Houma, but she was not challenged enough even in GT classes, so she is being home schooled.

Thanks. I was just giving him something to start with and from work experience New Orleans better yet the State of Louisiana use those scores for ranking. You can get lots of information from the State's website on all of those criteria you listed.

Gotcha. You're right a lot of states use those scores for ranking and they really shouldn't. There are many factors which contribute to the success of a school and many times those factors can't be measured by test scores (and those things may not be on the state's dept. of education website).

My sons have done both. The majority of you have hit on the "key" to any school/education for our youth....PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT!!!

We must be there for our children. I would be up there so much, some of my kids' classmates would be saying....
"Here comes Mr. Crockett again". That is something that I did not mind hearing from them either...

Private or Public = your choice...
Being Involved = No Choice...

Really? I found HLB to be a very good high school and would put it at the top of the state of Louisiana. Not sure about ST or Tbonne... Thibodaux was much easier than HLB but it has produced some successful blacks too... and some knuckleheads as any school would. :smh:

The bottomline is you only get one chance to rear and educate your child. Evaluate the system and your circumstances and do what you got to do.

Regards.
