Prairie View/Grambling Cotton Bowl extension not a done deal

By Shawn Williams

I really should have known better. I mean we are talking about Laura Miller right? You know, the one who has had an off again, off again relationship with the African-Amercan community of Dallas. The one who has no idea why black folks in Dallas would be so hard on a liberal female Democrat. The Laura Miller who has been in hot water every since she called former Dallas Police Chief Terrell Bolton an 'idiot'.

Well looks like the mayor is at it again, and I allowed her self-indulgent, gloat-filled press conference to get in the way of what I was hearing throughout. What was being said was that an extension with Grambling and Prairie View was forthcoming. What was being reported was that an extension with the two historically black universities had been completed

I heard on the radio (K104) last week that this was not a done deal also. I was confused when I saw it in the paper as a done deal.

I can hear it now when the mayor is told that she has once again slighted the African-American community. Here's how it will go down. She'll run to Heaven 97 to defend herself, stick her foot in her mouth (once again), and then get blasted by Robert Ashely's audience. In the end, it will cost we the tax payers more money to cover up for another Laura Miller misstep. May 12 can't get here fast enough.

That's the mature intelligent way to get the point across. But, Miller isn't @ the center of my gripe. It's the Negroes that are in charge @ PVAMU that I have issue w/ because PV wouldn't "go" unless they put their john-handcock on the dotted line. And if they're willing to settle for this treatment for a few shillings of silver where in the bigger scheme greens are being passed between the "heads" (city of dallas proper and promoter lol), PV deserves this treatment.

Being told what you will receive w/out negotiating? :emlaugh: Negroes are some funny animals. Run negro run....

While I'm ranting, also the site of the LDC w/ TSU REALLY NEEDS to change. :) Expecting an apathetic general populous to spend 50-60$ for a football ticket where the host home team will net profit only 50,000$ lol after paying the HSA their 100,000$ up-front for stadium rental coupled w/ other up-front fees AND they keep parking receipts and CONCESSION receipts?????? C'mon now. :emlaugh: Pay 100K for stadium rental but cannot find the same 100K to get the soil sample studies started for a purported stadium on campus for future games and/or stadium design. :retard: lol

That's the LDC deal? Damn.

Reliant has now proven to be a bust for the classic as attendance has dropped yearly....parking will never go down nor ticket or conession prices...unless both of our products change overnight and become FCS caliber teams the bandwagon fans ain't going to pay for it...

Why isn't Sunday considered a legitimate issue? Who knows...when SU rolls into town in 2008 on the Saturday of the LDC, I hope they have a legitimate plan....

What will Durley or the Berry center seat? 10/12-15K? Lets see.... 15,000 x 15$ (general admission/first come-first serve) is...225,000$ potentially. :read: I understand why these local school districts are erecting these mega-stadiums w/ jumbotron etc. :read: lol DAMN!!! 4 games @ home sold out could produce a million!!!! :what:

Charge for parking if you'd like (5$ is a LOT better than Reliant's 10$)... Let them keep concessions (nice concession, pardon the pun) and pay their 5K$ or 10K$ for stadium rental.

Our most profitable game last fall was Southern and Alcorn. :read:

I can ONLY imagine what an ON-CAMPUS stadium would bring in terms of $$$. :read:

I'm going to shut my mouth because I'll say something that won't come out right. I'll let the truer intellects (Jafus/tbf/C-Leb/TSF) speak on it.

Are you sure it is all Negroes (hint hint hint)? I really do not know for sure but am just asking. Fiyah, Jafus, band fan and you know more than I do on this situation.

If the mayor (or whoever) said the deal was signed, then they have to take some of the blame.

(Apathy???) Rememeber. There used to be traffic jams around the stadium during the LDC. I was in a few.

SPEAK PANTHRO!!! SPEAK!!! Some feelings need to be hurt.

Doc, I respectfully decline to put my foot further in my mouth lol and will gladly admit I'm not aware of any of the behind the scene issues, if they exist. All I see is one major problem: a large pot of $$$$$$$$ that we're not attempting to garner. We have a product and that product is invaluable IMO. I find ut-ou in the same regard that they, the powers that be in city hall of dallas/state fair classic officials, probably hold GSU-PVU in. Total disregard and could care the hell less about the red river shootout, etc. :)

And, you're correct. Not all the Negroes @ PV. But, it's the TOP negro I have serious issue w/ @ the moment. He's skating until retirement rolls around in that nice plush job @ PV. :uzi: lol It starts @ the top. Always. :read:

After reading the article, I have to disagree with the writer.....

I disagree with his insuation or notion that the GSU/PV game is on 'equal-footing' with the UT/OU game.... It isn't. Hasn't. And won't.

I'll wait for any comment before I go further.

No qualms there TMade. It's not on the same level and I also assert that it doesn't have the EXACT same financial impact. But still, it DOES have an impact. Now, what criteria they use to figure that? Not sure. But I'm most certain that it's worthy of GSU and PVU receiving more than 50,000$ from the city of dallas.

Panthro,

I understand why these local school districts are erecting these mega-stadiums w/ jumbotron etc. lol DAMN!!! 4 games @ home sold out could produce a million!!!!

'Invest in Self!'

Create a short term strategic plan to bring it on campus in combination with a financial analysis scenario supporting an investment for long range development opportunities seeking initiatives to refurbish or build a new stadium partnering with an outside entity.

I sincerely believe the longer with continue to market our biggest games in off campus facilities, especially without the balance of bringing significant opponents for on campus games the more our HBCU athletic programs will continue to fall further and further behind in athletic ?arms race? and RPI standings against larger (enrollment) regional PWC at the same divisional level.
