Porche's New Cayenne SUV Has Pepper

Porsche fans no longer have to sacrifice 4-seat practicality -- but they'll still have to dig deep to buy the $65,000 (for openers) Porsche Cayenne ultra-performance SUV.
Porsche says the Cayenne, scheduled to make its official debut in September at the Paris Auto Show, will be "Like a bat out of the Black Forest." Armed with either a 340-hp naturally aspirated 4.5 liter V-8, or an optionally available twin-turbo version of the same engine belting out 450-hp, that's no idle boast. The brain-smashing Porsche will hit the streets with a 50 more horsepower advantage over the 175-mph Corvette Z06 -- and a solid100 horsepower more than the world's other two ultra-SUVs, the 155-mph Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG ($65,900) and the BMW X-5 4.6si ($66,200).
The Cayenne will share a platform with the coming VW Touareg SUV -- though the VW version will not get the mighty Porsche V-8. In addition to blazing speed, the Cayenne will also feature full-time all-wheel-drive and a six speed Tiptronic transmission.
It will be the first-ever four door Porsche -- and maybe the fastest four door anything.
