JSU football: Tight end Frost may miss season
By David Brandt

The football season hasn't even started, but Jackson State quarterback Jimmy Oliver might have already lost one of his passing targets.
Tight end Marcel Frost reported to campus along with the rest of team, part of an 89-man roster that begins practice today at 11:15 a.m.
But Frost, who still has a brace on his left leg after breaking his fibula in the spring game five months ago, isn't sure if he'll be healthy in time to make a difference this season.
Though he walks without a noticeable limp, he hasn't been cleared to practice.
"It's frustrating because I can't be on the field doing the conditioning," Frost said. "I've stayed strong in the weight room and done a lot of work in the pool, but there's some things I just haven't been able to do."
Frost, a senior who already redshirted one season when he played for Ohio State, said if he can't get ready for the majority of this season he will apply for a sixth-year medical redshirt.
Last season, Frost (6-foot-5, 255) was the starting tight end and caught 10 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Other highlights from reporting day:
# The Tigers welcomed a smaller than expected recruiting class highlighted by transfers Domonique Johnson and Rodney Gray.
Of the Tigers' original 23-man recruiting class signed in February, only 13 reported to campus on Friday.
Among those missing: safety Kruz Long, offensive lineman Rashad McGill, linebacker Michael Pratt and quarterback Terrell Robinson.
Among those who did show: Johnson, a former starting cornerback for Missouri, and Gray, a former USM receiver.
"We're disappointed that some of those guys didn't qualify academically," Comegy said. "But we're very pleased with the guys we brought into this program."
# Running back Erik Haw, who was a slight disappointment last season after transferring from Ohio State, said he's 100 percent and ready to improve upon his lackluster showing last season.
Haw struggled with ankle and foot injuries last season and averaged just 3 yards per carry. He did score a team-high nine TDs.
"It's time to bite down, get physical and prove that I'm better than I showed last season," Haw said.
# Kethonne McLaurin said his second year at wide receiver should be much improved.
The former quarterback showed flashes of brilliance last season after he switched to receiver, catching 15 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown.
