Ole Miss fires Cutcliffe after 4-7 season

OXFORD ? Mississippi coach David Cutcliffe was fired today after his first losing season in six years with the Rebels.

Ole Miss officials informed Cutcliffe of the decision early today and Cutcliffe met with the team before an afternoon news conference.

Cutcliffe was 44-29 in six seasons at Ole Miss, 25-23 in the Southeastern Conference, and just a season removed from going 10-3 and finishing tied for first in the SEC West with Eli Manning at quarterback.

Cutcliffe met with chancellor Robert Khayat and Boone earlier this week after the Rebels completed the season by beating rival Mississippi State 20-3 last Saturday.

Cutcliffe was the only coach in school history to win at least seven games in his first five years.

After last season's success, his contract was extended. He has three years remaining on a deal that pays about $1.2 million annually, including perks and bonuses.

D@mn!! These people are going crazy.
Ole Miss lose. They have to buy out his contract. 2 million plus front the money for a new coach but they have the money.

I would imagine they only brought him in to coach ol' big head Eli. After that, they had no use for him, especially when he couldn't win after Eli left.

They won for two years without Eli when Romaro Miller was starting and Eli was on the bench.

They just had a down year. Add to that the Loyalty Foundation (Ole Miss booster club) was mad because they started Mike Spurlock over Robert Lane, Cutcliffe's open talks with Kentucky a couple of years ago and six players arrested/ indicted in the past 18 months and there you have it.
