Officiating in the GCC Game

See attachment of image from yesterday's game. Lucky for Bama State, Hoffman caught the TD pass. If this is not a classic example of face guarding then I don't know what is. I had to scan the image from the Mobile Press Register. I could not locate it in the electronic edition. The game was hard fought and very poorly officiated.

Dude please...the defender is attempting to go after the ball/prevent the WR from catching the pass. This is not a face mask.

His hand is clearly on Hoffman's helmet and obstructing his view before the ball arrives. That interference all day.

Dude, in live action at full speed this is not viewed as a face mask when the defender is trying to defend the pass.

I did not mention face mask. I called it face guarding. A DB can do that? I guess so if you can get away with it. In my book it gives the defense an advantage. Should that be permitted? I would like other opinions who officiate football.

Maybe in Grambling that's not a face mask but in the rest of the football world it matters not what you are "attempting or trying" to do - if you touch the face mask it is a penalty. That is why there are 2 versions - 5 yards for incidental contact and 15 yards for personal foul. Dude.

News Flash..............

there is no such thing as face guarding in college football.

First of all the points are moot because a) it was not a deciding factor in the game and b) because Slim caught a TD on that play. But while there is not face guarding in College - there is face masking and that picture indicates a clear face mask penalty.

Ok at first I thought it was just a Grambling thing but now I see this is a Louisianna thing - you cant touch the face mask of a player - offense or defense - regardless of if you are going for the ball or not - that picture shows a FACE MASK PENALTY. It is really simple. If the SU player didnt have his hand ON the face mask of Hoffman and was simply trying to make a play on the ball that would be fine and a clean play - but HIS HAND IS ON THE FACE MASK OF THE ASU PLAYER - ANYWAY YOU LOOK AT IT OR TRY TO JUSTIFY IT, IT IS A PENALTY 365(366 for Leap Year) 24/7.

And just so it is clear - you dont have to grab the face mask in order for it to be a penalty, you simply cant TOUCH it at all. In an ordinary situation, that would have been a 5 yard penalty for face mask.

OK, I have no comment on the thread, so I guess I'm off topic.

First off, congrats ASU on the win. The better team won.

But mh, what the hell was that y'all were wearing? That has to be the ugliest schitt I've ever seen. What color would you say that is? Mustard?

Again, take nothing away from the Hornets and their victory. They whipped our arses fair and square. But please do something about them threads.

Well obviously it?s a bama thing to try and be right about something because you can?t comprehend and not accepting the fact that you?re just wrong.

His comment was?.

Actually I read and comprehend well - the entire post. While your (Bluedog) comment was there is no such thing as face guarding in college Jag4life said it was not a face mask either because he did grab the face mask. My comments followed Jag4life's response. And in response to those comments the points I listed were in fact correct. Now, go back and re read and re comprehend and holla back once you have done that.

By the way if reading and comprehending were part of your forte' - which it seems it is not, you will see above Jag4life's response where I actually agreed with you.

And just so you know, this "Bama" can accept when I am wrong (if I ever am) it just so happens that this is not one of those times partna :wavey:

No what you were trying to do was spin what J C said and divert from the fact he was wrong. Good lookin out though......podnuh. :swink:

Clean Play. The Defender is actually making a play on the ball. Obstruction (Pass Interferance) would be waving his hands in the recievers view without making a play on the ball. No Good Official would ever call Pass interferance on a that play.

It's Monday morning........... :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :headphone :headphone

"Dude please...the defender is attempting to go after the ball/prevent the WR from catching the pass. This is not a face mask. "[/B] This statement is compliments of SOG in his response on the 2nd post on this thread. My original statements were in response to SOG. I didnt have to divert or spin anything JC said. So as I stated earlier reading and comprehending does not seem to be your forte', but again the points are moot because this is monday and that azz kicking was delivered on Saturday night and on that play Hoffman caught a touchdown - one play after SU was called for pass interference.

DaGSUman - there is no way that is a clean play - first of all it really could be called pass interference - he is obstructing his VIEW with his hand on the face mask - I was being nice by saying it was just a face mask penalty. A good official might not call that a penalty but a great one would have 2 penalties to decided from. It matters not whether you are "making a play" if you are making a play while in the same time gaining an advantage on the play against the other person.

So by your logic, what type of penalty is a stiff arm to the face?
