Norfolk State vs Mizzou

This is beautiful....but the funny part is when the dude said: Uh oh...police!

Right.

I am really happy for Norfolk State because they have to compete for support (Black and White) from the school across town, which is ODU.

Talk about an upset!!!!! HBCU!!!!

My mother in law was so hyped about her Alma Mater, she had no clue how high ranked their opponent was  Love it the big school black folks were more pissed than the white folks, I'm from Kansas City and I know how the black folks at MU look down on HBCUs :lmao::lmao:

Man it is getting to the point of sickening on here now to see them down their own every chance they get

It's what real ninjas do, but they will swear they aren't part of the problem.

When we as a conference start acknowledging that we arent the top dog of the HBCU, stop living off the past achievements , and start getting progressive in overall thinking and Conference Improvement then we will be on the right track.....Until then keep living off the Glory Years...

Good Job Norfolk..

Mizzou coach is a believer now. Hell YEAH!!!!!!!!! He'll probably be fired after this.

He is probably already packing his bags and sending his resume out to SMU. Those Mizzo folks must be out for blood! I bet that buyout check is already written for Haith.

Mizzou is no longer from the Big 12. As their fans made it clear in KC with their SEC chants ! They played like a SEC team today !! Go Big 12 !!!!

Think the SEC wants to rethink that membership offer?

Baseball is not a money sport

You can build a baseball without the fear of guys leaving early or program killing scandals. Those guys aren't thinking the pros. So you don't have to invest as much into those programs.

[QUOTE(No mid-majors were 1-4 seeds in the 4 brackets), it can be easier IF we can get good players with good coaching and convince some of these high school players that you can come and start for us right away rather than sit on the bench for 2-4 years at the big boys...][/QUOTE]

Why bother being a 1-4 seed? It's the top seeds that are falling left and right this year. For some of those teams-guys leaving early or getting kicked off teams is coming back to haunt them now. And the lower the seed you are, the less pressure you have to deal with. Now if you are CBS-how will those ratings look if the National Championship game features Northfolk vs VCU? Or Florida vs Detroit?

It is good to see NSU's athletic department seizing this opportunity.

Some teams were severely underseeded, like Florida. There is no way you could look at them and say that they were a 7 seed.

How about you ask your former players not to down the SWAC? Because I know PLENTY that flat out REFUSE to encourage any high school jock to play for a SWAC school. Heck I know plenty of alum that do the same thing. It's not always folks on this board.

Yes it is time to stop living in the past. 3 13 seeds stopped living in the past and built up their programs.

Looking through Ohio's media guide:
Ohio played 1 ranked team and 6 teams that either played in the NCAA/NIT this year or last year. 8 players were not from Ohio.
Head coach was from Ohio and helped recruit 5 NBA players some nonames named Greg Oden, Evan Turner, David West and Mike Conley Jr.
The assistant coaches-all from the area.
Team's star player was the 2nd best guard in the state. A few others were the 4-100th best players in the state.
3 losing seasons since 2000
Played 4 ranked teams since 2000-all losses
They don't have too many losing records to other D-1 teams
And they have beaten big dogs before this-just ask Georgetown.

Leigh University

Who did they play? Not the big dogs but plenty of lower tourney teams. LOL played at Delaware State and won.
This was a school that suffer from a scandal and gave up wins.
1 kid from Houston, Texas

This is what SWAC fans want to see a competitive team that doesn't go out to OOC for a check. That is what is turning your kids off and many of them are just doing that-playing for a check. EVERYBODY knows that. ESPN and other networks won't stop reminding everyone about that. We can beg for alum to give forever but sooner or later you have to say "F--- it". It's time to stop treating these young boys like trash and whores and letting big name schools give Chris Brown beating to SWAC schools.

If it means taking a bus or 30 cars to a game then so be it. If it means leaving the band and ugly cheerleaders at school-so be it. Sack lunches instead of McDonalds on the road-so be it.

There are ways to rebuild these teams without going for those beatdown games. If Leigh is willing to go play at a MEAC school-who else is willing to play at a HBCU?

It is easy for the public to get behind one Cinderella in the Final Four or in a championship game. But not two. The public wants to see blue bloods involved in the Final Four or title game. Last year's national title game ratings between Butler-UConn were down compared to Duke-Butler the previous season.

Since the tourney expanded to 64 teams only once has all four No. 1 seeds played in the Final Four.

Six times a No. 2 has fallen to a No. 15. Go figure.

y'all silly
Same fools be in here downing the MEAC when it's something bad going on their way.
Now it's "blacks folks down there own" all bc valley embarrassed the hell out of our conference.
Valley was in living color... proof as to why we are the sorriest conference.
But Congrats Valley. Good job at blowing the lead. no team in the tournament has done it or done it better. You was our best team & you represented us just like the world thinks of us.

Yea, we're acknowledging our deep flaws as a conference & giving props to Norfolk for doing what we CAN'T do.

An Alcornite and Jacksonian agreeing on something?!?! You know the world is coming to an end. When will our conference learn that the first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one?

BTW, who in the hell is this "imposter" on the Smack Board?

I don't think Florida would really be considered a cinderella.

Norfolk didn't seem scared at all. That's one of the SWAC problems. They get scared and schit when going up against the big boys or on national stage. Stay at home for all that.

I'm glad I haven't referenced one past glory moment when it comes to this subject. I'm not talking about football. I'm talking about basketball. I'm not JSU.

You basically said all the stuff I've been saying but in long form. I am not old at all and I remember when Valley was playing Creighton and MTSU recently in December in the state of MS instead of the yearly November and December barnstorming we (and ALL SWAC schools) have done recently.

Tennessee State, UT-Martin, UAB, Arkansas State, Tulane, La Tech, ULM, USA, etc. All regionals school under 5 hours from Valley that aren't strains on the budget that I know we could probably get for a home/away game and can be competitive in. Heck play some MEAC schools like TSU did to get some wins and get some confidence in these guys (although I'm sure people will complain about that as well if a SWAC school won saying "It's only an HBCU"). I said in the other thread that it's all about perception. Valley won 21 games. Compare that to Norfolk State with 3 fewer losses. That makes the biggest difference in the world when you see a team with single digit losses

I am critical of the SWAC and my own school. A lot of the people in this thread are straight downing their own and a few others have noticed this as well so no one can't say it's a case of being a homer. It's :(

You know really the score of the game flew over some peoples heads. 86-84. The significance of that score is...you got to match their scoring average if you want a chance to win. You not going to stop them. Norfolk State made good decisions on their scoring decisions.
