Owners approve proposed labor deal

NFL owners voted to approve the proposed labor agreement with the NFL Players Association on Thursday, putting the potential end of the league's lockout in the hands of the players -- who might vote on the proposed deal Thursday night.

Owners voted 31-0 to accept the proposed 10-year collective bargaining agreement, with the Oakland Raiders abstaining, sources told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio. Sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the owners have notified the players they would accept this deal contingent on all union matters being resolved next week, and the players' association being reconstituted as a union.

The likely start of training camps is estimated to be Aug. 1, sources said. The new 10-year CBA has no opt-out clauses for either side, meaning there will be labor peace until 2021 if the NFLPA ratifies the deal.

Not so fast my friends. The players still have to agree. The owners, by ratifying the CBA on their end, are putting pressure on the players to do the same. If they don't do so quickly, there is a belief the public will turn on the players for delaying the start of football. This was a PR move by the owners more than anything.

I don't believe it is a PR move at all. The players had a supposed VOTE on Wednesday. D. Smith didn't have everything in order for them to see. If D. Smith is suppose to be representing the players in these negotiations...why weren't all these 'issues' that the players want ironed out brought up all this time in negotiations. D. Smith is suppose to be in tune with what the Players need/want & relay that in the language so it can be introduced by the Owners in the CBA. He hasn't stated any of this to the owners all these weeks which is why the owners are 'baffled'.

Smith should've been preparing the union to recertify, end all of these lawsuits prior to Wednesday....since the players had a VOTE pending. He did not do any of this..now the players are asking all of these questions and he must rectify all of this mess by next tuesday. Again Smith has agreed to something & was totally aware of all of this because he set up a vote by the players on Wednesday... but he dropped the ball on his end. :smh:
 
How can the players vote on something they haven't seen yet? I'm following a lot of NFL players on Twitter right now. Those guys said folks would have to really naive to believe the NFLPA would just agree to a deal by the owners without knowing what it entails.

Here is what Steelers player rep Ryan Clark had to say about the owners coming to an agreement:

It is deception. Paints a picture of bargaining or negotiation to the public when there wasn't. To paint us into a corner The players havent seen the proposal ratified today but owners were trying to force us in to a deal & terms on their timetable

they are just saying what D. Smith is telling them to say. Everytime someone ask the players 'what are the issues' you all have now. They can't give a specific answer because they don't know.

If this is how the players felt...D. Smith should have never Ok'd a vote on this. He should have been telling them that this is a 'no go...not a done deal & we won't vote.' Instead he set up the vote meeting & once players started asking questions...he trying to act as if he didn't know anything about these 'negotiations'. My point is that D. Smith has not been communicating with the NFLPA effectively. They should not for the 1st time be hearing about this proposal...if he represents the players its his job to get them to understand the deal. NOT the Owners....he isn't doing his job. All of this should have never happened if he was doing his job right.

None of this would have happened if the owners decided to not lockout the players. I'm just going to do like everyone else and wait and see what happens. There is going to be football sooner or later with or without the owners attempting to strong arm the players. As long as there are no regular season games missed everyone should just chill.

The players are right about not signing, but its D. Smith's fault for not getting that info right before the vote meeting.

Kendrick I'm aware of that. I'm talking about these past 2 days though. No one is asking D. Smith why he OK'd the Vote meeting if none of this info had been briefed by the players.

The guy doesn't know what he's doing.

What's the rush? The players/attorneys still have to look over the info and still vote. For a deal that's supposed to last 7-10 years, the players and their attorneys have the right and SHOULD take their time crossing their "T's" and dotting their "I's". That's the wise thing to do because once it's signed, there's no turning back.

this lockout is not over. the owners basically pulled a PR move to turn the fans on the players. the players havent even seen the deal yet and have until tuesday to sign it.

so to speak yes. What are all these terms they have been agreeing on? D. Smith has been agreeing on something. The problem I have with D. Smith is his push to decertify the union. This doesn't allow the 'Union' to Collectively Bargain on certain 'issues' because they aren't a 'Union'. So what are the Owners to do? Are they negotiating or not? The Brady Settlement/lawsuit is what's hindering everything because the players can't recertify until this is handled. The Owners can't bargain with the players in legit form until they become a union again. The Owners don't want to negotiate with the Brady case because it destroys the Union & the way business runs in the league.

So what are they suppose to do...effectively 'end' the lockout with their vote on a CBA and give it to the players & see what they want to do. This in turn, melts the Brady case because their is no 'lockout' now. After the players become a union again then these 'issues' the NFLPA have can really be dealt out...just like the owners said in those 3 days.

The revenue sharing has NOTHING to do with the players (what are they mad about). That is all NFL club stuff. Between the Big markets & small markets. It basically has the big guys help the little towns pay their bills & continue to have a healthy league & avoid what's going on in the NBA/NHL now.

This is what has happened...The NFLPA dragged their feet to gain leverage because they knew the NFL would lose money at the start of the preseason games and the NFLPA wouldn't until the start of the regular season. So, they dragged their feet hoping to get the owners to cave on the rest of the issues. It was a powerplay by the players, and they just got trumped by the owners. D. Smith & the players are lying. They are playing themselves...& trying to prove a point.

The fans are already turning on everyone...we are all beyond pissed that this thing is dragging out this long. Hell, it's suppose to be pre-season time just about. :mad: :upset: :angry:

Man, ain't nobody pissed. It's JULY. Nobody cares about preseason games, the HOF Game or training camp from a fan perspective. As long as there are no regular season games being missed, folk should just relax. LOL A deal is going to get done sooner or later.
