Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh remember we quiet and we traded all our picks for Julio Jones

The Atlanta Falcons acquired Philadelphia Eagles Pro-Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel for a late-round pick, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

As part of the deal, Samuel restructured his contract, agreeing to a three-year, $18.5 million contract with the Falcons. Samuels' contract with the Eagles had called for him to earn $9.9 million in 2012 and $11.4 million in 2013.

Samuel, 31, is a four-time Pro Bowl pick. He gives new Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan a strong trio at cornerback with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes, who Tuesday signed his franchise tag tender. Grimes will make $10.262 million this season.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff was New England's director of scouting when the Patriots selected Samuel in the fourth round in 2003. Samuel set a career high with 10 interceptions for the Patriots in 2006.

Samuel became expendable when the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha and acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie last July, giving them three Pro Bowl cornerbacks. But the team couldn't find a suitable deal for Samuel, so they kept him and used Rodgers-Cromartie in the nickel spot.

While Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie struggled in a new defense and new roles, Samuel was the most consistent of the trio. The outspoken Samuel probably sealed his fate in Philadelphia when he criticized the front office at the trade deadline, saying management was "playing fantasy football with the owner's money."

The Falcons secondary has been horrid for a while. I remember all them years of Milloy getting Mossed back there.

LOL, why are you getting excited about Asante Samuels? What is dude, like 40 now? The Eagles won with that deal and got out of having to pay him.
Sorry doc, but he's 30 or 31. And we won with ours, cause he restructured his contract and we got him for cheap. Sorry doc, but there's no rain on this parade.

Let's see what the Eagles fans have to say about this trade, since some of the most uneducated football people think this trade was great for them.

Do you even watch football?

This is a horrible move. The best CB on our team to a playoff contender that we very well may face for... the next Greg Lloyd Jr.

I'll be sad to see him go. People are saying that he's lost a step, I disagree. 2010 and 2011 were the best years of his career, and were truly elite. Everybody said when Nnamdi got here, people would start throwing at Asante. Well they didn't, they threw at Nnamdi instead. I just hope DRC can step up.

are u kidding me?...a 6th round pick....you guys act like this guy is a bum!.....asante is good...he is aging?....so is nnamdi!.....the eagles will regret this..

O you mean the game asante scored almost half the teams points himself. Whether you love him or hate him he was still top 5 last year and I swear some of you don't watch games. The problem was putting rookies at lb and safety on a hof bound wr

Hmm............seems to me that most of the Eagles diehard fans loved this guy's play on the field. Well, I guess they dont see that they got the best of this deal.

As cowboys fan you should part your lips about secondary with that crap ya'll had last year

Say MH and JSU2Dec, look at what we gave away for Samuels:

Latest Falcons RapidReports

Falcons paid seventh-round pick for Samuels
by Knox Bardeen, CBSSports.com

The Falcons sent a seventh-round pick (No. 229 overall) to the Eagles for CB Asante Samuel, the team confirmed Wednesday. Atlanta now has just five picks left in the 2012 NFL Draft: Round 2 (55), Round 3 (84), Round 5 (157), Round 6 (192) and Round 7 (249 - compensatory).

woe is the FALCONS for giving up a 7th round pick for Samuel. Because a team can only improve with those lower round draft picks. :retard:
:snicker again:

And not only that MH, it keeps getting worse for us. Here, take a look:

From PFT:

Initially reported as having a value of $18.5 million over three years, a league source tells PFT that the base value of Samuel’s new contract is $14.5 million over three, with escalators that could push the number to $18.5 million.

The full details of the escalator package aren’t known, but the source says it includes factors like leading the league in interceptions and making it to the Pro Bowl.

Actually it's a pretty good pickup for them. I'm sure Samuel is good for more then 2 points.

LOL @ you Falcons fans getting excited about Samuel. Dude is a gambler. But on one on one coverage he is suspect. His specialty is jumping the routes when the Qb gets too predictable. Why do you think Philly went out and got 2 more corners last year. Until the Falcons start of harassing the Qb with a better pass rush, then your poor DBs are going to be hurting. Like I said, yall should have taken Kellis nephew last year instead of Julio. He would have been a better pass rusher than picking up that scrub from Minnesota.
