Titans to make big pitch to Manning

Titans owner Bud Adams wants to sign Peyton Manning and says he will do whatever is necessary to persuade the four-time NFL MVP to come to Tennessee, even offering up a job in the front office once his playing career ends.

Adams told The Tennessean on Sunday that he has contacted Manning's agent, Tom Condon, to express his interest and ask for the quarterback to visit the Titans. Manning visited Denver on Friday and spent more than six hours in Arizona on Sunday.

''I want Manning,'' Adams said. ''I'd love to see him in Titan blue after watching him so many years with the Colts. ... I want him. I am ready to do what it takes to get him aboard, and I think he'd be the guy to get us into the playoffs.''

The 89-year-old owner has watched his franchise miss the playoffs six times in the last eight seasons, with one-and-done postseason appearances in 2007 and 2008.

The last time Adams wanted to add a quarterback, the Titans drafted Vince Young in 2006. The Titans cut Young after the 2010 season in a move team officials convinced Adams had to be made.

Two teams lose cap space

The NFL is taking away millions of dollars of salary-cap space belonging to the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins for front-loading contracts during the uncapped 2010 season, according to league sources.

The salary cap is projected to be $120.6 million in 2012, but the Cowboys will lose $10 million, while the Redskins will be docked $36 million in cap space, sources said.

Dallas and Washington can split the cap loss over the 2012 and '13 seasons in whatever form they prefer, with $1.6 million each going to 28 other NFL teams, the sources said.

The New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders are the only two teams that will not receive a portion of the money.

During the pre-lockout 2010 season, the collective bargaining agreement expired and the league operated without a salary cap.

The timing of this is strange, after the Redskins make the trade to get RG3.

Moss agrees to 49ers deal

Randy Moss is ready to show the world he can still be that dynamic deep threat who once dominated NFL defensive backs.

Even after a year away. Even at age 35. Even with a reputation he says isn't all it's made out to be.

Moss is getting a another chance in the NFL, signing a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, only hours after he worked out for the team with coach Jim Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback.

''I'm not a free agent. I'm a guy straight off the couch, straight off the street,'' Moss said. ''One thing I want the sports world to understand is the love and passion I have for football.''

Moss will fill a big void for the reigning NFC West champions in Harbaugh's version of the West Coast offense.

While he didn't go as far as to promise not to pout when times are tough, he did say all the right things, and that he plans to be a positive presence in a locker room known for its blue-collar, unselfish approach. Moss has no interest in reflecting on his past, either.

This is a fresh start.

Moss got a good vibe about the organization from the moment he was picked up at the airport Sunday night, calling it a ''no-brainer'' to sign. He said the organization quickly decided to ''pull the trigger,'' and it's a low-risk, high-reward move for San Francisco.

Texans to cut Leinart on Tuesday

Matt Leinart’s NFL free fall continues.

The Houston Texans will officially part ways with the former USC quarterback on Tuesday, ending a disappointing two-year career that saw him play in only two games there.

The 2004 Heisman Trophy winner, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals at the end of the 2010 preseason, made his first appearance for Houston in Week 10 last season in relief of an injured Matt Schaub. Leinart was named the starter when Schaub was diagnosed with a season-ending foot fracture during the Texans' bye week. But his career as a No. 1 didn't last very long — Leinart injured his shoulder in the Week 12 game against Jacksonville on Nov. 27 and was out for the year.

That opened the door for promising rookie T.J. Yates, who started the final six games for the Texans, completing 61 percent of his passes with three touchdowns, three interceptions and four fumbles. Yates became the Texans’ third starting quarterback in three games last season, but now appears to be a solid No. 2 behind Schaub.

The Texans are sticking with Schaub in 2012, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday, and will not pursue free agent Peyton Manning.

Dude your falcoons still gonna get stomped and we're gonna kick SF's ass too.

Re: Moss agrees to 49ers deal

LOL!!!!!!! Words from a delusional fan who's hopes rest on an angry QB who's eating all their salary cap.

Don't hide once FB season starts. We have a record setting QB. Maybe the falcions should have gone after Moss. At the end of the day Matty Ice is still YOUR QB.

A record setting QB who has not signed his tag and said that he will not unless he gets all his money that will cripple the bank. Maybe you all should cut all your FAs and give the man his money.

Oh! And let's not forget "Bountygate". Judgment day is fast approaching for your punishment, so Get Ready for your fines, suspensions, and loss draft picks. :D Have fun with your record setting QB without Payton on the sidelines for a whole year.

We will be fine. Colston is about to sign with us today, Nicks says we have presented him a respectable offer. Brees is the least of my concerns. He will get signed. As for Bountygate GW will be the scapegoat. We may lose a draft pick or two but there will be no suspensions.

Ooooooooooooooooook. That is what all you Aints fans are saying. But I find it interesting that only you, Aints fans are saying that. Everyone else seems to think otherwise. GW will be kicked out the league and SP and Loomis will be suspended for a year.
