New Orleans HS's Vs. Atlanta HS's

Lassiter band is nowhere near high-step or show style... Lassiser band is 90% white. Now they are GREAT, but I dont think they fit this topic at all.

I thought the topic was NO HS bands vs Atlanta HS bands. Though Lassiter is in Marrietta, I thought they might qualify for this topic.

Yes, Lady Rebel, their style varies. That is one of the things that I believe puts them over the top when compared to other bands. They can operate in either style at an exceptional level. Mr. Watkins insists on not having his students pigeon-holed into any one style.

Dude my frat bruhs and sorors who pledged at FAMU from New Orleans (35 HS) got over there and took over in the late 80s.

Unlike most of yall schools. SU saw FAMU back then. So I knew the makeup over there. The ATL kids were not running the 100 in the 80s like they have in the 90s and 2000's. I just know what kind of musicians we had that went to play professionally from those NO HS. Same for Houston. My boys who were from the ATL HS(like Mays and Douglass) that went to SU would tell you the same. Stephenson was not even a thought back in the early 80s. Neither was Redan, or most of those suburban ATL schools. Those schools rose up in the 90s as the black folks moved out to Stone Mountain, DeKalb county and such. The pure inside the city limit ATL HS bands were okay........not on NO Level in 80-90. Doc would see tapes of them HS in Atlanta and shake his head back in the day.

BTW, JSU had some cats from New Orleans as well back then that could roll. So did TxSU in the mid 80s. They had a slew of New Orleans talent back then. So it wasn't just the Juke. I reference the Juke because we were a top band back then that was full of N.O. talent with nobody in the band from Atlanta. FAMU was primarily Florida HS kids.

The Juke has had more kids come from the ATL and that area since the 90s and the 2000s. We got a bunch now. Back in the 80s........zilch. I don't remember the Boom being full of ATL kids either. Gram or TxSU.

So they all must have went to Bama State, AAMU and Tn State.

Yea, I caint say for TSU, but A&M and Bama State had a lot of ATLiens.

ATL was not the majority of A&M band (B-ham, Montgomery & Mobile had that on lock), but we were plentiful. In high school (I went to Douglass)....shiid a lot of our band members (during my era)that went to College, a lot of them didnt march in their respective colleges band. The ones that did, marched for Morris Brown, Clark, Fort Valley, FAMU(ONE dude), A&M, and Bama State. One chick marched for Hampton; but didnt nobody go to SU, JSU, etc.

Anyway; did I hear somebody say Lassiter High School :lmao: man that's a white corp style band.

You are OBVIOUSLY unaware! The only New Orleans High School that has ever born a resemblence to Southern was Kennedy, but they don't exist any longer, so no one holds that distinction.
If you don't know, you shouldn't comment. i.e., I don't know enough about ATL bands to have an opinion so I haven't commented as far as thats concerned. If you have no idea about New Orleans band, you should refrain from commenting also.

Man ive seen ALL those bands. And all of them are BLOW BLOW BLOW style bands with the only exception being St. Aug.

Look at schools like MLK, Miller Grove...hell Pebblebrook. I can remember when Pebblebrook was like 100% white now they showstyle lol

Only ones with show-style down there I can think of are Spencer and Carver. The rest of em have really small bands except Shaw..and I dont think they'll ever convert lol. They TRIED to convert LaGrange..but it was already too late...someone had KILLED our program...*cough cough*:swink:

Shut up. :emlaugh: I just had coffee with him recently......it's so amazing how that man looks EXACTLY the same as he did when he was my BD. :tup:

But yeah, it will be a cold day in hell before Shaw ever convert. :smh: They've always had one of the top band programs in the state of GA. :nod:

He told me the band is 80% Black.... I honestly see them turning quick just like Morrow did. When the director from FAMU got there they were abot 60% white, when he introuduced show style, blacks came, whites left and now the band is almost 100% Black.

The highest chair I could ever get in All-City was 3rd cause dem dayum Shaw boys always got 1st and 2nd. :lol:

There is NO way they will be 100% showband with no white shows. Peach County is the same way, they have more blacks than whites and they have a semi-show style but they still do some white style shows. There actually quite a few bands in GA like that with HBCU band directors.
