The Olympian
Grieving New Mexico safety hauled off plane, booked for baggy pants

By Matt Hinton

The Transportation Security Administration identifies many, many official threats to our skies, from contact lens solution to gel shoe inserts to throwing stars. Even in the wake of the "Underwear Bomber," though, boxer shorts have been considered generally safe — unless, that is, as New Mexico safety Deshon Marman discovered Wednesday at San Francisco International Airport, airline personnel can see a little bit too much of them:
On Wednesday, San Francisco police got a call about 9 a.m. that someone was exposing himself outside a US Airways gate, Sgt. Michael Rodriguez said.
An airline employee spotted Marman before he boarded Flight 488, bound for Albuquerque, and complained that Marman's pants "were below his buttocks but above the knees, and that much of his boxer shorts were exposed," Rodriguez said.
The employee asked Marman to pull up his pants before he boarded the plane, but he refused, Rodriguez said. Marman allegedly repeated his refusal after taking his seat on the plane.
"At that point he was asked to leave the plane," Rodriguez said. "It took 15 to 20 minutes of talking to get him to leave the plane, and he was arrested for trespassing." Marman allegedly resisted officers as he was being led away.

You boys, young men, grow ass men, and old men are going to learn to pull those pants up not every one of us want to see your underwear...It really is indecent exposure to some of us!

Lemme guess.....he was saggin in his skinny's trying to be "swagnificent" (these kids kill me with their colloquialism)

He was just keeping it real, I read the story this morning and his mom was interviewed and she said he was grieving the loss of a relative/friend and was dealing with that. I guess that makes it right for him to sag. :retard:

The thing about it all is that he went through security and passed with no problems but someone (probably a ofay) felt that his dress was inappropriate because it wasn't like theirs. These airports are not consistent in any of their stuff.

Real talk homeboy!(and yea their colloquialism is funny) And I agree with DCG. At the same token, I told brothers in my service org, if I ever see them wearing saggin pants in para, that will NOT be a pleasant conversation.

When will these cats realize that saggin is not accepted at a lot of places? just ask the owner at my barbershop.

His sign says "low pants no chance!"

Bingo. If this was a true issue, it should have been stopped at security. Yall better realize, the same people who had a problem with him, would have had the same problem if he had on a business suit. As long as he is running that ball, they are fine and happy with him, just like they do yall kids.

Airport security and an airline's rules on its planes and flights (assuming that this rule is actually codified) are two different things.

But which should trump the other?

If someone is in the public areas of the airport and is not considered exposing themselves why would it be any different on a plane?

It's not a matter of one trumping the other. The plane is private property owned by the airline. As such, they have the right to make those types of rules as they see fit. Now, whether the rule actually exists and whether it's applied consistently and equally are different matters, but the airline has every right to make such a rule.

You are correct they reserve that right so they can profile folks. It doesn't matter if you shirt sand tie dressed, or pants off of your tale. They think of you that same way.

Before anyone goes on a rant, yes wearing your pants sagging is the most disgusting thing you can do. I think it is sick. My only problem is that America always wanna change the rules when it comes down to certain groups. As long as that group can run, jump, sing and dance they love the mess out of you. Typical American values!!!

Because as long as there are folks to scream about it being unfair and other places that have no issue with it. They won't understand it. If gettign jail time, $500-$1000 tickets isn't enough to get you to keep your pants up-than I don't know what will.

In Fort Worth-you can not ride bus if your pants are sagging. That was passed into law two weeks ago. Guess who was the main folks crying about it? And they reply from the city was-"feel free to WALK".

All it takes is one person to have an issue with it. It doesn't matter about the rest of the employees. Why do some folks overlook it? Because look at how long it took to deal with this guy about his pants. Some folks don't want to deal with. I do agree-it should have been STOPPED before he entered the building not when he got on the plane. There is NO law preventing a building from posting a sign that bans sagging.

People handle death differently. Who knows how this dude was thinking at the time. Black folks always judging folks on stuff until it happens to them. When you grieving after the death of one of your family members, look in the mirror and judge yourself. The answer is never the same answer you judge folks by until it happens to you and yours!!!

It was inappropriate!

So this is a justification......

So showing your draws is grieving......Like Tom Jackson says...Come on Man.....

I'll play Devil's Advocate.. :lol

There are several towns around here that have passed "no sagging" ordinances and some have stuck. Others have not because some people see it as "freedom of expression" because you cant tell a person how to wear their clothes...

I'm 30 and have never been into it and sometimes "WE" go way overboard with it... WAY OVERBOARD (and me having worked at a prison I know what it actually means) with it but sometimes what some might frown upon is generally accepted by others.

Baggy pants lead to arrest of US Airways passenger

Kudos to US Airways!!! If you cant follow rules - take the bus!

http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/post/2011/06/us-airways-baggy-pants-arrest/174698/1

A 20-year-old man booked on US Airways was eventually arrested after he refused to pull up his baggy pants, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Deshon Marman, a football player at the University of New Mexico, was boarding a flight in San Francisco on Wednesday when the incident happened.

That's when The Associated Press says a US Airways worker noticed his pants were "below his buttocks, but above the knees, and his boxer shorts were showing."

The employee asked Marman to pull up his pants for the flight, but -- after a series of back-and-forth exchanges -- he was asked to leave the plane and the police were called.

Re: Baggy pants lead to arrest of US Airways passenger

Hmmm...I don't know how I feel about this.

First of all, he's getting on a plane...travelling...who cares what he looks like. I could see if he was stopped while walking through the airport but he was boarding a plane, about to sit down. What's the difference between this and stopping white girls that wear those pajama mickey mouse pants while on the plane?!?!

Let him get on the plane, sit down and go to sleep.
