Rod Broadway would have been the success he was regardless of where he came from. He coached under Spurrier, but he borrowed little if anything from his offensive philosophy. Broadway was a successful ball control/strong defense/good special teams championship HC.
Coaching in the power 5 doesn't guarantee championship coaching pedigree. It doesn't even guarantee success as a HC.
Hue Jackson coached at power 5 USC, Cal & Arizona State, Clarence McKinney coached at power 5 TAMU & U of Arizona, Mike Haywood coached at power 5 UT, LSU & Notre Dame, Ron Dickerson coached at power 5 Colorado, Penn State & Clemson, James Bell coached at power 5 Indiana & Wake Forest, Tony Hughes coached at power 5 Ole Miss & Miss. State, Earnest Collins coached at power 5 Kansas and Ron Cooper coached at power 5 Notre Dame. None of them did much in the SWAC.
Mickey Joseph coached at power 5 Nebraska, Alonzo Hampton coached at power 5 FSU and Cris Dishman coached at power 5 Baylor. We will see how that goes.
