Southern will get its day in court June 25.

That’s when eight representatives of the university will appear before the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance in Indianapolis as the Jaguars attempt to have an NCAA postseason ban lifted.

All Southern teams have been ineligible for NCAA postseason play since December as a result of inadequate reporting of student-athletes’ Academic Progress Rates. The university has been working for more than six months to satisfy NCAA requests for complete and accurate APR data.

Two NCAA representatives visited the campus in April to evaluate changes Southern has made to its record-keeping and submission to avoid future shortcomings.

An NCAA spokesperson said the hearing will involve a discussion of “the data issues at Southern and how the school will move forward with accurate and timely data submission in the future.â€￾

Puebla’s return appears near

Southern assistant baseball coach Fernando Puebla is expected to return to his position later this month, head coach Roger Cador said.

Puebla, Cador’s right-hand man for the past seven years before his departure, and his wife and son returned to his native Venezuela just before the start of last season while the family’s attorney tried to resolve his residency status.

Cador said Friday that he expects Puebla to rejoin the staff on a volunteer basis “in a couple of weeks†and return to his former position once his status is settled for the long term later in the summer.

Broussard said he was “hopeful†of Puebla’s return in the near future.

So, are they granting him a green card or work visa? And I'm sure those La Republicans will have something to say about the immigration laws.

Re: Puebla’s return appears near

So Cador couldn't get it done without Puebla? Hmmm, interesting indeed.

Death penalty?

1. Ever since the SMU death penalty (which set in motion the events that led to the death of the Southwest Conference), the NCAA has been very hesitant in dropping the death penalty on member institutions. If Penn State didn't get the death penalty as a result of the Sandusky situation and Baylor after the Dave Bliss/Patrick Dennehy situation, why in the world would Southern get it for the massive paperwork problems? I guess you're using the Jerry Tarkanian thought process of the NCAA punishing Cleveland State for Kentucky's problems.

2. Let's say on the off off off off chance, Southern gets the death penalty. Would the SWAC eliminate Southern from the conference? If so, what school would take Southern's place in the SWAC? How would the SWAC account for the loss of Southern in its deals for conference contract?

3. The NCAA is at its most sensitive time in its history since the CCNY point-shaving deal in the 1950s. It's not in the NCAA's best interests at this point to be heavy-handed with Southern, a low-resource HBCU. Broussard and others have fully cooperated with the NCAA to provide what they wanted and to show how they are correcting the mistakes from previous administrators/employee negligence.

I know. Saying "death penalty" would just get people up in arms. I have a question for you, do you honestly believe Southern deserves the death penalty.

You didn't have to answer. That's what the hell they want but it's far from a death penalty. Maybe reduced practice time but as far as us still having ban, loss of schollies, and reduced practiced time, I dont think so.

Re: NCAA meeting with Southern set for June 25

 HE'LL NO. You wish we would huh. :smh:
That's what most of people in this conference want. For us to be banned, and not have anything to play for. That's why this conference is at the bottom because of bs like this. They want for other schools to fail because of a damn a victory/championship. Newsflash, the conference just showed, that you have a 650 (random) APR and still be eligible for the ship. Oh well! I know we are going to come out good of this situation. That's not what most want to hear on this board but so be it.

Re: Puebla’s return appears near

Man, its sad!

I'm only quoting what some have already said from su. Get mad at them. Puebla must have been a very important to the team. If you asked Cador, he'd probably say the same thing.

Have you taken a poll of what most people want for su? If so, did fifty one percent or more say "I want su to be given the death penalty?"
If not, then your above comment is pure fabrication.

Funny, this topic has been talked about in 2013 and some have already expressed their opinion and I won't bother going to search them over. I don't need a poll although it would be funny

Re: NCAA meeting with Southern set for June 25

They need to be checking to see if Old Man Jackson got his AARP membership info up-to-date.

Let's weigh the cost here: which is worse, facing the possibility of all of your sports programs being banned for several years to come or an old football coach? YOU make the call.:snicker:

Re: NCAA meeting with Southern set for June 25

I thought y'all said everything was okay because the paperwork was corrected and faxed off.
So why have a meeting if everything is "ok".

did you not read the damn article? we are only meeting with them to go over the documents and they want to know what steps we are taking to make sure this doesn't happen again. a ruling is expected the first week of july. im sure most of you are marking that date down praying that the ruling is not in our favor.

Re: NCAA meeting with Southern set for June 25

It didn't take long for the J-Settes to come in here. Smh
They are praying that we fail, and talk bad about every other school but always play the victim. "It is us against everybody us" hell I see why! dumb mofos

Re: NCAA meeting with Southern set for June 25

if the NCAA haven't given North Carolina and didn't give Texas Southern the death penalty, why would they be heavy handed towards SU?

Now whose playing the victim? If you commited the crime, brutha you gotta take it like a man and do the time. If you fail, it won't have a thing to do with prayers.:emlaugh:
You just gotta appease them White folks from the NCAA and play the fiddle like they want you to play it and how long they want you to play it, THEN they might give you a pass.
