Former Stephen F. Austin baseball head coach Johnny Cardenas is being considered for the head coaching position at Alcorn State baseball, according to reliable sources. However, this hire is not official.
It is unclear at this time or of a date whether the athletic department will issue a coaching contract after former coach Reggie Williams was relieved of his duties after 3 years, but sources have stated that this would be a big hire if they get Cardenas. He’s an experienced coach who didn’t have a lot of resources in a good conference.
Cardenas announced his retirement after spending 16 seasons at the helm of the Stephen A. Austin baseball program, effective July 31, 2024.
