Governor, my is my godfathers first name.

Honestly, you don't even have to go too far back to find names that people aren't naming children anymore. A lot of our peers have names that we consider normal but are not being chosen for kids born in the past few years. Names like Eric, Michael, Shawn(or Sean), Jason, Christopher, and Anthony were very common when I was in grade school but you would be hard pressed to find one in a Kindergarten class these days. It's kind of scary in a way because our names will probably be considered "old-timey" in a decade or two.

That isn't exactly true. The name "Michael" was like number 1 for newborns in recent years....according to statistics on Babycenter.com and another baby website.

That might've been because of MJ.....let's see what happens when people forget about him....btw, that's my first name.....I go by my middle name though.....

I originally wanted to state that it was amongst our people that those names are no longer in use, but I didn't want to make it a racial issue. Whites and others will always use names like Michael, Steven, Robert, etc. while some Blacks may find those names too "plain". We are only 12% of the population, so of course there will be more White newborns in a given year than Black ones(and thus there may be more Matthews than DeAndres in a given year as well).
