My Take On The Student-Athlete vs. HBCU Problem.

Hell LSU baseball gets major coverage in Louisiana PERIOD. SU gets above average coverage too but I agree when Rickie Weeks was considered the best player in the Nation and he was beating LSU the coverage was minimum.

That's true...lol

Most of what you say is true, but in areas like Atlanta and Decatur, blacks still attend HBCU's heavy. Also where we are throwing stats out here more kids who enter HBCU's graduate vs their PWC peers. Also while we putting stats out here, more HBCU grads go on to masters and OHD's vs their PWC counter parts. If we gone tell the story, tell the whole story. Kids go with what they are familiar with and inner city kids tend to go more HBCU routes. While suburbia and small town kids go with who they grew up with the most. PWC folks.

Isnt that pretty much a GIVEN since ALL the students that HBCU's are pretty much black? And you're also comparing schools with a black enrollment quite often LESS than 5,000 students. You're talking about schools like Spelman, Howard and Tuskegee.. which are the top 3 HBCU's that graduate their black students and the highest.. being Spelman is STILL only 78%. And honestly, ALL of the HBCU's with the higher graduation rates are PRIVATE schools. Now if you want to talk public HBCU's vs public or private PWC's the numbers arent even close.

Now lets flip that for a minute... SU's NO campus has a 5% graduation rate. Yes, 5%. TxSO, 13%. Miles, 18%. Stillman, 19%. I mean I could go on but its only going to offend people if I do. Now on the flip, GSU's African American graduation rate is at 64%. And just for the record, the top 25 schools as far as graduation rates for black students goes, there's not ONE HBCU on the list so yea I think your statement is pretty general. And the statement about more black students from HBCU's going on to get post secondary degrees is wrong too.

Oh and BTW, you do know that MOST black students DONT grow up in the "inner city" right? Just askin...

Man you say anything to try and make it seem like you graduated from a real school. Dude GA St is not a top notch school. let's get that outght of the way. it is no better than all the HBCu's you try to put down. Yes son I know most blacks don't grow up in the city, that is why I said most inner city blacks go to HBCU's. Also you are a lie, the public HBCU's like AAMU and Bama St have higher grad rates than those at AU and UA. Man stop trying to make PWC's look like they are all that. You can't tell me nothing about this topic. Keep trying though. I can't believe you said that HBCU grads don't go on to get more masters. Please tell me you aren't that lost? Do you read? The information is out there.

unknown1 that should tell you something...

What's the ONLY difference from the successful and non successful black schools...

One is privately ran.. NO government intervention and the other is ran by the government...

Thing is the Government run all state schools...

So why is there such a HUGE gap between the ALL BLACK private schools and the Government ran BLACK schools...

The Private schools are HELPING each other... blacks helping blacks...

This is just a smaller scale of "black wallstreet"

Those private schools can do much more than these public schools can because of the private tag.

Truth be told.. most of our HBCUs should have went private when our sports was top notch...

But we can only attempt going private until "Blacks start to help Blacks"... Again!

Man the only difference that separates schools like Ga St and Miles is that Ga St went from being open enrollment 15 years ago. While Miles and Tx Su just went. Folks like this dude come on here trying to make it seem like schools like Ga St have always been top notch. Man I am from Atlanta, born and raised. I can tell you when folks left other schools because Ga St was an easy school. Now he wanna act like they been doing that for ever. Dude please. Bring it, I can put bad info out on Ga St just like you wanna do HBCU's. Folks like this dude wanna act like disparities in America hasn't caused the problems we have. Man please keep it real. HBCU's had to be open enrollment for years because of the set backs by America in a unequal playing field.

Naw... brah.. here in New Orleans... LSU baseball getz MEGA coverage!!!

SO it was very ODD Weeks didn't get hardly any coverage down here...

But keep the "new" excuses for WT comin....lol

Well, maybe LSU does get a ton of baseball coverage in New Orleans. But the fact remains college baseball coverage and discussion pales in comparsion as a whole locally and nationally than football and basketball does.

Man let's keep it real. This is the south. Yall wanna act like the south has been this progressive MECCA in America for ever. yes, the south has began to move forward, but it has just start happening in the last 10 to 15 years or so. The reason private schools are ahead is because they never had to do open enrollment. Shyt less than 20 years ago the southern states were still putting old text books in classrooms. We had open enrollments is our schools because we had to have it. Now in 2010 you kids who progressed off of the backs of folks wanna act like it has always been there. Typical bumpkins. man typical small town mentalities. Sad!!!!

Okay....POP and GR must be one and the same.........LOL

Man you ain't lying. We couldn't even get in the club free. Man, it was rough during the Bell years. We are still blacklisted to a degree. The connection with the oldheads was broken during this time period. We don't get invites to football reunion picnics and such. A lot of tradition was killed during the bell years

Just because you say it doesnt make it true homie. Thats what I dont get about folks on the internet that throw out vague statements like they cant easily be proven wrong. I dont NEED to act like GSU is any better than any school either.. thats just your typical black/white spin when people arent even talking about black vs white like you ALWAYS do.

Thats the difference, some schools evolve, some dont. Hell what do I care about what a school was like 30 years ago when I wasnt in school? If that's your only argument then SMH. BTW GSU is in the process of building a brand new law school and a brand new business school. It's also the #2 research institute in the state of ga NOW. And the only reason im using it as an example is because its where I graduated from. I mean do you really want me to use schools like GT?

Oh and BTW you do know Bama State's graduation rate is less than 30% right? Auburns black student graduation rate? 53%. Again, stop making vague statements like they cant be proven wrong. On that note im done with this subject.

You just keep proving my point young man. I mean seriously you really don't get it do you? Ga St was giving a second life because the Olympics came to Atlanta. it was just a downtown commuter school. The state invested money in it because it was the only white school downtown. Southern states don't put money into black folks. That is the bottom line. You wanna brag about what racist southern white folks did to help there own, yet down black folks because the same southern whites held back HBCU's for years. You can never run from history. That is why your generation will always be lost.

How many Black students are at Auburn versus the number at 'Bama state?

lol but yet you just keep throwing false statements out there. lol you got it man.

Hell how many black students are at the HBCU's that DO have high graduation rates? I pointed out the difference in numbers earlier when it wasnt in favor of HBCU's but no one said anything, now when I prove the other argument to be false it matters? Just for the record, Spelman.. with the highest graduation rate only has 2000 students. Howard, a little over 7,000. Tuskegee, about 2,500. This is what I meant earlier when I said with those numbers the graduation rate SHOULD be high. But just for the record Auburn has around 1400 black students.

Doesnt really matter how you try to twist it the truth is just the truth. Going to an HBCU doesnt mean you're more likely to graduate if you're black. Aside from the few schools I listed above its quite the contrary actually. The student athlete numbers are even worse. So are people going to care more about an athlete or a student in general graduating from school if they go to an HBCU? They answer is obviously NO. Colleges are still businesses whether it be sports wise or not.

Fasle statements? Huh? Dude you wanna forgtet what made our schools what they were, to brag on something these white folks told you were great. Okay, keep fooling yourself.

Man do you know how dumb you sound? You keep pointing out the grad rates for first time college students vs students who come from a 2nd or 3rd generation of college grads. Typical, you ninjas get a lil something, get a good job and all of a sudden them good white folks been givng us the same fair treatment for life.
