They use OUR athletes to remain relevant, don't they?
Instead of saying OUR athletes, just say our elite athletes. HBCU athletic programs still have deep black rosters.

HBCU's are not spending enough on marketing.. We have a generation in college and about to go to college who have never been exposed to the HBCU lifestyle... We have a generation of parents who did not go to HBCU's... So the kids have not been exposed... I have a co-worker who went to Southern... He lives Southern... His kids are a junior and senior in high school.... They LOVE Southern.. He made sure they grew up with the colors and going to homecoming... As far as the athlete goes... WE think that going to a PWC gives us a better shot at the pros and we will SEND OUR CHILD to a PWC because WE THINK ITS BETTER.. Lets uderstand that alot of parents are making these decisions...
I say go after the kids that are debating to go to JUCCO, D-2 or D-3. Get your hooks on to them before Senior Year so they can keep thier grades up and not go that route to a D-1 school. Where any school can get them instead of the HBCU.
Please. :emlaugh: And, from what I can tell about some of these HBCU "alums" around these parts, all they want to do is throw dumb ass HBCU-type party----------------> :retard: I mean REALLY -> :retard:
Folks dog JSU all day about our white qb.............we as HBCU's are stuck in a horrible OLD WAY of thinking...
Folks think just because we are an HBCU we should get the elite black athlete or since their parents went to an HBCU there child should automatically attend an HBCU...He is a white why is he playing QB for an HBCU...Sum Folks on TSPN are horrible....
I have been asking this question for years. I don't understand why we don't get more whites, and others, ESPECIALLY Mississippi SWAC schools with that Ayers money and how they put the minority stipulation on that.
I'm with you I think it's too much ignorance combined with pride in my opinion. I can't stand listening to some on this board talk about a white athlete at a black school. It's the same ignorance that the whites used to have backin the 60's and before. Two wrongs........etc.
Man kill that noise. The ignorance is not being realistic. No one has ever stopped them from coming to our schools. The realistic view is they don't wanna come to our schools. We can't get black kids to come to our school, what makes you think you gone get white kids to flock to HBCU's? If you can't get a kid who 9 out 10 times had a family member who went to our schools come, how gone get some one who is born and raised to think he is better than you and not to be around you come? The ignorance comes from not living in reality. Name one white kid in America who grows up wanting to play for an HBCU? Shyt you can't name one black kid in 2011.

I kind of disagree with you to a point on this bruh, because folks would ROUTINELY talk bad about Doug Shanks, because our baseball team was mostly white. If he's getting them to come to Valley, why should that be a problem for anybody?
Huh? LOL Cee my post had nothing do with whether they want to come or not. I'm saying when they actually DO come to our schools for whatever reason it is,some people spew ignorance and complain or criticize a white player playing for an HBCU. I don't think many white kids at all grow up wanting to play for an HBCU.

Baseball and Football and two different beast. You can go pro from any where. Fotball is about money and power. These kids want power. I mean let's be real, even black folks think HBCU football is small time. Do you not think a white kid from Orange County, Alabama think different? His whole family knows the SEC. 99.999999% of his family and friends have never heard of the SWAC or MEAC.
Many of you are saying go after juco D2 and D3 athletes thats who we get now the scrubs (the SWAC is lacking in sound coaching and strength conditioning and SPEED)..I've seen guys come to JSU and I'm like how in the hell are they even playing football....Many of my homies went to D1 schools skinny as hell and after their freshman year come home home jacked...How many 5,4 OR even 3 star athletes do u think SMU and North Texas are getting!
We will never and let me repeat never get the 5 and 4 star athletes until....
1. Our Administration changes the direction of our school from a financial standpoint
2. School Pride/Alumni and Booster must start to give back
3. Athletic Dept. must upgrade in staff and management and want to become bigger and better in terms of expecting more from athletics
4.......An upgrade in facilities.......You are not gonna get a kid to choose Praire View over North Texas (no smack) ....especially when they look at the nice facility, indoor practice field, sellout stadiums and the Nike Contracts.....
5....Community Marketing HBCUs need to start gaining Business sense....Many may hate me for this but Former JSU President Mason had that...Jackson State has one of the best HBCU Campus now a days.....You can look on the website..but all HBCUs need that!
And look at our OOC games where we are getting blew out and our SWAC Championship game fumbles guys cant even throw 20 yard passes....Please dont take this as smack but style of play from all of our SWAC schools look like they are playing in quicksand compared to big time football.....

Everybody keep saying that HBCU's are not spending eough..... they can't spend, what they don't have. We need to be saying HBCU Grads arn't giving enough......Give back to the school and then challange them to spend. I know plenty of PWC folks that give back like they give to the church.
My kids are very familier with PV and wear the colors. My son had at least said that PV is on his list (he's a junior) and my daughter has said that PV is too close to home (she's a freshman and I'm still working to change that).
Rught now those kids don't qualify to get into our schols, that's the reason they are going Juco, D2 or D3.
They are quick to throw one and put the schools name all over their fliers and not give 1 cent to the schools.
Number 5 is a result of the Ayers money. I would like to subscribe to the crumbs off the table philosophy by, taking some castaways from the big boys.I heard that castaways are either disipline problems or can't play. I'm of the opinion that you can always find diamonds in the rough so at least give yourself a chance and at least hustle for them. somebody mentioned early that some of these kids would rather sit on the bench third string than rather have a chance to start at a small school. We if they're a true competitor they would want to play some where.

It's funny how sum of u guys are saying how SWAc schools should go after transfers and juco kids. Comedy been doing that at JSU nd receives the most hate in this backward ass conference just an observation! Smh
I agree with the beginning of this thread... HBCU's are not spending enough on marketing.. I know many of you are against white athletes at HBCU's but why we cant recruit them into the SWAC?????
I feel that this is a big problem with HBCU's we are very narrow minded and only look at one race of athlete...We have got to branch out!
As a parent of a high school recruited athlete and a HBCU grad, our kid wasn't recruited by any HBCU schools until very late in the game. She wanted to be recruited by the schools, but nothing happened. Of the thousands of recruiting letters and emails, not one came from a HBCU, not even UAPB.
I told her that recruited athletes have to first love the schools that love them, meaning you can't want to go to a school that isn't recruiting you. I really think that many of the coaches simply DON'T RECRUIT well. Kristin's grandfather taught at UAPB for 30+ years, both parents graduated from UAPB, many other family members and friends too and all knew she was a good basketball player, however she didn't get one look from UAPB. After watching UAPB play SMU in women basketball this year, I wouldn't let my dog play for that program. I saw a 5'2 185lb point guard on the UAPB team. How can a 5'2 185lb player get a D1 scholarship in basketball and yet one of the nation's top point guard can't even get a serious look (plus both of her parents are alum).
Serious question, Sperm: Why is it a problem that UAPB didn't recruit your daughter if you wouldn't let your dog play for them? Maybe the coaches knew that and didn't waste their time or your time. :noidea:
I think you misunderstood what he was saying. He didn't form an opinion of the basketball team at UAPB until this year. His daughter already had made her choice. But like I have heard from MANY HBCU alums. Our schools simply think we owe it to them to just send our kids there and make no effort to recruit our kids sometimes. Heck I was recruited to come to SU for many reasons. I expect my son to get the same treatment when he is ready for college. Don't just take it for granted because the kid is the child of an alum and think you already got them. And in some instances, when it comes to coaches.....alot of them think alum kids can't play even if you call them to alert them about your kid. It's like they don't want to have anything to do with you. I imagine some alums are problems when pushing their kid on their school. But if that coach can validate the kid can actually play then why not recruit them. Ben Jobe and I had a conversation over the phone in the early 90s when he was coaching SU basketball. He was one the few coaches who embraced alums giving him info on players no matter what. Some coaches would never return a call. I know Coach Jobe said that's how folks miss out on players. Cador is the same way. He will get back with you. Just not many like that though.
