Morehead State To Name Sean Woods as New Basketball Coach

Congratulations to Sean Woods!!!

Winning at Valley has allowed coaches to move up!

He should be getting a substantial raise as well.....

Hoopsdirt had reported earlier that they offered the guy for Butler $185K but he turned them down, then Woods was their next choice.

So if Woods got the same $185K offer, he came up by $100K from what he was getting at Valley...

I hope more SWAC coaches get an opportunity to "move up" per say.......The key is not staying too long......If you stay in the SWAC too long you get "pigeon holed". I also think that ability of some of the coaches to get headcoaching jobs in other conferences will ultimately help the credibity of the SWAC.

if they offered the head coach from butler 185 they are smoking something. he's been to 2 final fours!! more appropriate offer would have been 1.85 million.

Congrats to Sean, he did an outstanding job. Now we move on to the next phase. Any ideas as to who will be looked at for this job. I know a guy at UAPB that would love to come home as that is all he ever talks about. Myself, I kinda like seeing a new coach every 4 years. Chico Potts should be given consideration as well.

Huh? Every 4 years?

Not that it's any of your concern, as you have old incompetent Tevester. But since Strib retired, Valley wins the SWAC every 3 to 4 years with a different coach. That means somebody is holding on to the same coaches and they got nothing to show for it or they are bringing in new coaches and still got nothing to show for it. Anyway you look at it, this appears to be working for Valley.

huh?

...and Woods wasn't that good at Valley. He only had one good year. Old incompetent Tevester owned him! Woods knew he would never see another SWAC title.

Maybe he will do a better job than James Green is doing in that conference. How about his assistant coach? I think he would be ok for the Valley job.

Do you think before you type.......no don't even answer that because I know you don't. Woods conference record during his 4 years at Valley...........

2011-12 17-1
2010-11 12-6
2009-10 8-10
2008-09 7-11

So as you and any blind person can see that each year they improved, so it wasn't some flash in the pan overnight success. I keep telling ya'll if it's one thing Valley can do is kick ass in basketball and softball. Stribling, Green, and Woods all had success at Valley, and I don't doubt the next coach will succeed also.

2 SWAC winning seasons aint GREAT..... He did what he was suppose to do with a SENIOR team.... a better measurement would have been next years team.... most of the SWAC was young this year... Valley was led my seniors.

You do realize when he first got the job at Valley he had 3 players on the roster and still managed to win 7 conference games right? Nobody said he is a GREAT coach, but he has demonstrated that he can rebuild a program.

Why did you respond to him?

The next coach (hopefully like Woods.. a young upcoming one who can recruit and coach DEFENSE) will do the same thing. I EXPECTED Valley to win the SWAC this year (I didnt expect 17-1 but I knew we would win) because it takes a good coach about 3-4 years to get their system and players in place at a small school. Green took 4 years. Woods took 4 years. The next coach will do the same thing because Valley has a lot of young players.

Valley - 2 SWAC titles in 5 years
Jackson State - 0

Like I said earlier.....the key for SWAC coaches to progress is not to stay too long......They have to move while they are hot or they will stay stuck in the mediocrity of the SWAC!

 Agreed statement right here! Woods was smart go out on top....he did improve but to say was a great coach is a stretch but he did well..The OVC is a conference on the rise as a mid major school and with the addition of Belmont its looking real good in basketball next year will be rough for Woods but he will be aight!
