Deeeeep In The Delta.....
Cancelled because of an NCAA rule stating that if an FBS school plays an FCS school that would count towards the BCS, that school must be "deserving". Valley doesn't fall into that category so in essence MSU would be playing a game that doesn't count towards the BCS.

Re: Mississippi State/Mississippi Valley State Football Game Scheduled For 2013 Cance

Would any SWAC school?

The NCAA allows one victory per season over a Division I FCS (formerly I-AA) team to count toward an FBS team's bowl eligibility, so long as the FCS team has supplied financial aid for football averaging out to at least 56.7 full scholarships (90% of the limit of 63 allowed to FCS schools) over "a rolling two-year period" that can include the current season.

Re: Mississippi State/Mississippi Valley State Football Game Scheduled For 2013 Cance

So, how much is Valley getting for the cancellation???

Re: Mississippi State/Mississippi Valley State Football Game Scheduled For 2013 Cance

And msu didn't know this BEFORE they signed this game?

Re: Mississippi State/Mississippi Valley State Football Game Scheduled For 2013 Cance

Ms State scared after Valley beat them in baseball?

Valley was at 39 scholarships when Totten left. I don't know if they upgraded when Karl Morgan got there.

+1 this ^^^^^^.
it's what kept u of h from demolishing pv back in the recent past- so, enter Gram & SU.

I always wondered why PV did not play UH during the span when TSU and Gram did. I always felt it would have been a well attended game.

How many scholarships does each SWAC school have?

Yep.

When they say "deserving", they mean a team that consistantly put up wins and winning seasons since they started letting one FCS school count. Valley has had a losing record for the last decade. Obviously, the better the FCS team, the better the S.O.S will be for the FBS school at the end of the day. Valley not having a winning record in double digit years would kill Miss State right now.

As it stands, a JSU, GRAM, Bamma A@M(SCG runnerup), etc., would be good and acceptable. Sam Houston or a Georgia Southern would be even better because they would be considered stronger. In Mississippi states case, it comes down to getting a GOOD team that people know about around here or invite in a Sam Houston or Maine that nobody around here that fololows SEC football know about.

Ummmm... it has nothing to do with wins or loses... what PV Pride psoted is the reason why. That's what they stated in the news as well.....

Typical JSU nonsense....

Grow up dude.
If you think any BCS eligiable team playing Valley would not be a laughing stock, then you freaking crazy. I tried to be nice but since you want to come in with your usual bullshat, I say it outright.

Nobody in FBS is going to schedule valley now or no time soon if they want to be considered a contender without laughter. Scheduling any FCS team is a risk but scheduling a team that consistantly get blown out every freaking weekend for over 10 year would be a damm joke. Schollies or wins and losses. Whats the difference if you can't put shat together. They may as well play Millsaps.

You like that answer better since you like to make any answer from any JSU poster personal because your team has been sorry since the virgin mary gave birth to Jesus. :smh:

Valley should get some money from this huh?

That's why I asked up yonda. If they had a signed contract, it has to call for a buyout. Can't just break a contract.

We played U of H in 2006 I believe or was it 07? I know it was hot as hell and there was a storm brewing in the Gulf. It was Labor Day weekend I believe.

Sorry, I think 662 is right in this situation.

To Mississippi State, playing Valley is no different than playing JSU or Alcorn. They are going to win anyway.

This has to do with MSU's bowl eligibility, pure and simple. If the Valley game doesn't count toward bowl eligibility, then they'll simply be replaced with another FCS school.

As far as owing Valley money goes, I'm sure the counting toward bowl eligibility language was in the contract. Valley knew what the requirements were in terms of scholarships and so forth. If Valley didn't meet the requirements, then that's on them.

I'm sure State wants to play Valley, but I seriously doubt the contract was written without conditions requiring Valley count toward bowl eligibility and didn't have an escape clause if Valley didn't meet the requirements. That's the whole point of playing the game. Win counting toward bowl eligibility in exchange for a pay day. Let's not pretend it is anything more than that.

Re: Mississippi State/Mississippi Valley State Football Game Scheduled For 2013 Cance

The following is from the Greenwood Commonwealth:

Mississippi Valley State’s 2013 season opener against Mississippi State has been cancelled, according to a report by WABG TV’s Mike Sands.

By NCAA rules, Football Bowl Subdivision teams. such as MSU, can schedule one* Football Championship Subdivision team per year and count that victory toward the six wins needed to become bowl eligible. But that FCS school must give out at least 90 percent of allowable scholarships for that win to count, but Valley gives out around 50 percent so the game would not count toward the Bulldogs becoming bowl eligible.

Sumlin & staff did good scheduling sTu, Gram, & SU. PV was to be the first but PV didn't offer the required % of schols @ the fcs level; enter SU first . Nice regional game, nice payday for all who took advantage of the opportunities.

As said before, typical JSU nonsense. I'm sitting up watching the broadcast knowing what they said. PV Pride gave the specific NCAA rule as to why MSU cancelled the game but as usual trying to hold a logical convo with some of these Lynch St. posters is like trying to make Kim K out of a housewife.

By the way, when did 2 and 1 point losses become blow outs?

Which is why I say Valley should be D2. D2 schools give out 36 scholarships. Looks like Valley is giving out around 30. You can't win like that. Parity in the SWAC is obvious now because more teams are 50+ in scholarships. 10-15 years ago, you only had a few schools giving out that kind of money. I think Valley would be a very successful D2 school. I don't think being in the SIAC is bad thing. The thing Valley needs is to win! Playing Tuskegee, Miles, Fort Valley, Albany State, Morehouse, etc.. would provide good challenges for them. I'm sure if they could play an SIAC schedule every year and still play JSU (in Jackson) every year, they would be happy. ..they should be.

If they they want to join the SIAC, the Gulf South is also a viable option...but I think the SIAC is the PERFECT fit for them.

Honestly, ya'll should be put out of the SWAC for not giving out the appropriate number of scholarships. I bet the presidents won't vote on that.

You need to stop categorizing all JSU people by saying "typical JSU nonsense". Remember one person do not represent the views of all and I get offended when you say stupid stuff like that. My brother-n-law works at MS State and one reason why they don't want to play valley is because their alumns are asking "why?"
They know that playing valley really hurts them and many of their fans said they will not attend that game. Coach Mullen's office has been flooded with phone calls about playing valley.

They are hyped for JSU but not valley. I will see you on our homecoming if you want to continue this conversation.

Cut Valley's check!!! They getting paid, and won't have to get slaughtered to do it.
