The First 48 is an American reality television show based on homicide detective units in various cities across the United States. The show's premise is summarized in its title voiceover: "For homicide detectives, the clock starts ticking the moment they are called. Their chance of solving a case is cut in half if they don't get a lead in the first 48 [hours]." A countdown timer is shown occasionally during the show to reinforce this, and to add drama.

Each episode picks one or two homicides in different cities (though in early episodes, both are in the same city), covering each alternately, showing how detectives use forensic evidence, witness interviews and other advanced detective skills to identify suspects.

The First 48 is notable because it takes viewers behind the scenes of real-life investigations with unprecedented access to crime scenes, autopsies, forensic processing, and interrogations, offering a view of homicide detective work that is not obscured by the veil of fiction. The original soundtrack, composed by Chuck Hammer, is a combination of dark ambient music integrated with sound design.

The show offers a realistic, uncompromising, gritty view of homicide detectives in America, and the methods they use to do their job effectively.

Now personally I have read and called some of my Memphis sources. I think it is a crook of crap on Memphis city officials crying like some brats. Crime goes on in EVERY MAJOR CITY!!!!!!

It was bad enough when I read that my girl Caroline Mason had been moved out of homicide :mad: , but to not have Memphis at all. :mad::mad:

First 48 won't be the same. (well, at least not til Bham gets going)

Memphis, by far, was the most interesting city.

and I gotta say, the final few episodes from Memphis were the most interesting ones.

I cant wait til the Lester Street case gets shown again.

this some bull. far and away the best show on tv. its shows how these punks shoot somebody over little or nothing, try to act so hard on the outside, but start crying and telling on everybody before the detective sits down to interrogate him.

the last episode I saw was about the memphis football player that was killed over his casino winnings. turns out a guy he beat up a year earlier put a hit out on him....told some his old high school buddies he had a bunch of money and where he lived. now all 4 of them are in jail and the young man is dead over a few bucks

you should've seen the one for this week. Dude was playing that tough role when he first went into the interrogation room. Acting all hard and then said he wasnt gon say nothing, that he wanted a lawyer. So, they put the cuffs on him and were hauling his young arse on off to the slammer and I guess reality finally hit him then. That punk started crying like L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just all out wailing!!!!!! Snot everywhere. :bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling:

said he wanted to talk. They brought his arse back in there and he proceeded to tell it all, how his boy had shot and killed the man during a carjacking. :smh::smh:

I guess he thought all that damn crying was gon make everything alright. :smh:
He ended up getting charged with capital murder too!


It always just amazes me how these young guys just throw their OWN lives away. :smh::smh:

These guys dont think pass shooting somebody and getting the money. Especially if the crime is done with someone else. You would think the nutts would say something like, "aiight, we done did this crime...if they question you about it, DONT SAY NOTHING TO NOBODY. JUST ASK FOR A LAWYER."

Most of the time if the initial guy they interview just doesnt cop to the crime the police wont know a damn thing.


There was this one episode where the guy was walking down the street and he got in a shoot out with this guy that was trying to kill him....but he killed the guy. This was an episode with Caroline Mason. They gathered all the evidence and figured out what happened. Well somehow they found the guy that killed the dude. IN THIS CASE he was too dumb to tell the police that he was defending his life and he shot the guy in self defense. Caroline had to tell him that they can tell what happened. They just wanted to hear him say it. Dumb Ass.

What Caroline Mason was moved out of homicide?? That woman is the truth. If I ever went into an interrogation room and saw her walk in I would just go ahead and ask for a lawyer because she will make anyone confess.

Yup, I read that she was moved to the Missing Persons Unit or something like that. I think some of the powers that be in the Memphis PD didnt like that she had become such a "celebrity". LOL
But Mason is my girl. I used to love seeing her in action. She used to break down those guys and get 'em to talk.

btw, theres a lady who works in Wachovia @ Five Points who looks just like Mason, even down to the hair and the mouth. :lol: I asked her if she has any relatives in Memphis. She just started laughing, cause she already knew what I was talking about. She says she gets asked all the time if she is related to Mason.

Love the show. One of the Dallas cases took them to ElDorado, Arkansas.
Loved having Memphis. The kids who were burned in the truck happened not far from where I lived.
Still want to know how that one guy got out of the convience store.
When will these guys learn to say "I want a lawyer". The cops say "we had to get a confession"
When will they learn that when they pull the trigger, life as they know it stops.
I hate to see Memphis leave.

I haven't been on the A&E site yet, but do they provide any follow ups to previous cases? I want to know if they ever found who killed that Darron dude in Miami...his boys 'Run Run' and Dexter had the .50 caliber Desert Eagle and the rest of the drug boys...they know somebody in that crew did it...I just saw that epsisode the other night so i don't know how old it is...

They do, but it's real spotty. The followups aint good at all.

I remember that case in El Dorado where the "brotha" killed his white girlfriend and left her at some lake in Dallas.

I think Bham gone take it to Memphis level. I dont like the shows with white folks and hispanics on them.... I like the hood shows.... the Memphis shows and SOME of the Miami ones (Pork and Beans projects)...Bham all hood, and they killin iggas everyday there.... so it should be good.

yes indeed...your comment is funny and sad all at the same time...:smh: pitiful. I don't know if these folks round here just 'done lost' all hope or what. but the world bout to see it up close and raw...

If anything I hope this will encourage people who witness crime to come forward
in my beloved hometown of Birmingham.
