Memorial Stadium: JULY 1, 2011

GOAT FARM!
For bettor or worse, it becomes JSU's property on that date.
thoughts, ideas on how to generate revenue outside of JSU football, etc.
Have at it.

Barbour signs bill to give stadium to JSU
In less than four months, Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium will be Jackson State’s.

The Sonic Boom has marched into Memorial Stadium a few times over the last half-century.

Gov. Haley Barbour signed House Bill 1158 last night, giving the university ownership of the football stadium its played in for several decades but also leaving some wondering how JSU will maintain the 60-year-old structure

Currently, what revenue streams fund the stadium operations including salaries? How much of your state general fund went towards the stadium? How much does the stadium self generate from concessions and parking etc?

WE don't know. We can only trust that our administration did their homework.

In due time, hopefully JSU can hold onto the stadium until we can make some agreement with UMMC to get our own on-campus stadium. I think this is what the powers that be have in mind to begin with.

I'd be surprised if JSU will have that stadium or land within the next ten years.

So they finally gave it to yall?

In due time, hopefully JSU can sell the stadium to University Medical Center and get our own on-campus stadium. I think this is what the powers that be have in mind to begin with.

Like I said before: If Haley Barbour is in favor of this, it can't be positive for JSU. :smh:

If Barbour is in favor of it, JSU may indirectly benefit due to the fact that the University of Mississippi Medical Center will eventually get the land they crave while JSU will eventually get a stadium nearer to or on JSU's campus. In short, JSU may benefit by default.

If the Medical Center only wants the land the stadium sits on, would they be willing to pay a price large enough to build JSU a new stadium?

The Medical Center has no use for a stadium. Isn't is true that in situations like that, where they are essentially buying land, the price is discounted to close to or equal of what they would pay for just land? Is that land worth 50 - 60 million dollars?

The land around the Medical Center is purported to be worth around 80 million dollars. UMMC conducts quite of bit of research on an international level. If they could tear down Memorial and expand the hospital, they would've done so years ago.
This paves the way for both parties to get what they want, land and a stadium....IF everything falls into place.
