Ex-OSU Star Clarett Accused of Robbery

Re: Maurice Clarett Accused of Robbery

Saw this report on the NFL tickertape. He should have used that year off and gone to another school (ie Gsu or whomever) to stay in shape. His future would have been different. Guaranteed. If allegations are true, this story is BEYOND sad. Lawrence Phillips....SEND HELP!

Re: Maurice Clarett Accused of Robbery

What's wrong with that boy? His agent says he was supposed to sign with an NFL Europe team today.

Re: Maurice Clarett Accused of Robbery

I truely blame it on his mother. If anyone remembers, when he was going through the stuff with Ohio State, she never asked for him to keep his scholarship. All she seen was money and began a fight for him to go to the NFL. Not once did she question why her son was taking those cupcake classes at Ohio State. She seen her son was an NFL prospect and wanted him to get paid. She should have beat his butt on TV and made him go to school.

Report: Man not sure it was Clarett who robbed him

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man who told police he was robbed in an alley behind a bar early Sunday says he doesn't know if it was former Denver Broncos running back Maurice Clarett dressed in black who told him to empty his pockets.

Lucas Nyarko, 28, told The Columbus Dispatch that he hopes it was just someone who looked like the 22-year-old, who helped Ohio State win the national championship in 2002.

But police were searching for Clarett, who was accused of using a gun to rob Nyarko and a friend shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. Nyarko said his friend identified Clarett after police showed her photographs, and police said the bar owner, who came outside during the robbery, knew Clarett.

According to police, Clarett left in a white sport utility vehicle with two other men and took only a cell phone from his alleged victims, who weren't injured. He was wanted on two counts of aggravated robbery.

Nyarko said he and his friend were approached by a man dressed in black, who told them he needed something. Nyarko said the man pulled up his shirt and showed them a gun tucked in his pants. The man moved the gun to the front of his waistband and told them to empty their pockets.

Nyarko said after he handed the man his cell phone, a woman came out of the bar and yelled, "Maurice!" in greeting to the man, who hugged her. He then carried the woman, who police said was bar owner Tashona Corvi, toward the SUV, put her down and got in the vehicle.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett appeared in court in handcuffs and jail-issue clothing Tuesday when a judge set bond at $50,000 on charges that he robbed two people with a gun in an alley behind a bar.

Former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett was arraigned on armed robbery charges in Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday. (Paul Vernon / Associated Press)
Clarett, who helped the Buckeyes win the national championship in 2002, did not enter a plea and did not speak in court. His next hearing is Jan. 12.

He was released from Franklin County jail after posting bond that had been set by Judge Amy Salerno, a sheriff's deputy said. Each of the two charges of aggravated robbery carries a possible sentence of three to 10 years.

"We are looking forward to investigating the allegations," Clarett's attorney, William Settina, said outside court. "That's all I can say."

After spending the better part of two days wanted by police, Clarett surrendered Monday night, about the time the fourth-ranked Buckeyes were completing a 34-20 win over No. 5 Notre Dame in Tempe, Ariz., for their third Fiesta Bowl victory in four years.

I guess he wanted to watch the game first and see who was going to win.

Re: Maurice Clarett Accused of Robbery

Look at him.....lookin like Mighty Mouse on steroids. I dont care if he was the stick up man or not. Grandmama told me a long time ago that "u you are a direct reflection of the company you keep".

Maybe I would be a little more sympathetic if the guy came from a broken and crime filled home. Maybe I would be a little more sympathetic if he was raised by only an aunt or grandmother who did the best they could all alone. Maybe I would feel different if he lacked a FATHER or other male role models. BOTH his parents were active in his life. He got bad advice and his priorities were in the wrong place. He was the TOAST OF THE TOWN and thought he was untouchable.

Sometime these kids need ol' fashioned parenting instead of mom and dad acting as sports agents.

Former Ohio State star indicted

Short story............

Former Ohio State star indicted

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Former Ohio State star tailback Maurice Clarett was indicted on charges of robbing two people behind a bar and carrying a concealed weapon, a prosecutor said Friday.

Clarett is accused of flashing a gun and demanding property from a man and a woman early Jan. 1. Police said he got into a sport utility vehicle with two men after he was identified by the bar owner, who happened to come out into the alley.
No one was injured, and only a cell phone was taken, police said.

Clarett, who led Ohio State to the 2002 national championship, was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and four lesser robbery counts, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said.

He only would be sentenced on two robbery charges if convicted, but O'Brien said the extra counts are "backup charges" to give a jury options.

If convicted of the two most serious armed robbery charges, he would face up to 26 years in prison.

Clarett's attorney, William Settina, said he might issue a statement later Friday. He refused to discuss details of the case.

Clarett, 22, was sought by police for almost two days before he turned himself in about the time the Buckeyes were completing a win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2. He posted $50,000 bond and was released from jail.

Clarett rushed for 1,237 yards and scored 16 touchdowns as an Ohio State freshman in 2002.

His final touchdown, in the second overtime of the Fiesta Bowl, gave the Buckeyes a 31-24 upset of top-ranked Miami for the national title.

The prosecutor urged the two people who were reportedly with Clarett in the SUV to come forward. Authorities are continuing to search for them and have not identified them, O'Brien said. They could face charges of being accomplices.

Oh well. All those resources at his disposal at OSU and he did nothing with it..........now look at his plight. I wonder what Jim Brown got to say now. SMH

Re: Former Ohio State star indicted

All I can say is, don't ever take on the NFL.

First Janet Jackson, then television, and radio censorship, and now Maurice Clarett.

NICE

For some reason, I aint buying this story on face value.

I mean, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt before totally condemning them to the outer limits of stupidity.

Think about it.

You are MAURICE CLARETT. In COLUMBUS OHIO no less (like he's not recognizable there) and you rob two people at gun point without a mask or any type of disguise. All to steal a cell phone. And it just so happens that these two people are BEHIND the club and the owner just happens to stroll outside to catch him leap into an SUV. They saw that it was an SUV with two other men but NO LICENSE PLATE NUMBER. So you turn yourself in and come up with a $50k bond after you couldn't even afford your own cell phone a few days earlier.

ALL TO STEAL A CELL PHONE !!

Just doesn't jive to me.

Sounds a lot like Tony Dungy's son's girlfriend "GOING FOR A WALK" at 1:30 in the morning (alone and a female) only to return and find him dead.

Just seems to far out on the outer limits of stupidity to be true.
