Love Bugs

Yep in South LA. They aren't as bad as they were like a month ago. They aren't many at all the further north you go in the state.

Love bugs were engineered in Florida at UF. The intent was to have them eat mosquitoes. Pathetic failure.
:lmao: I'll say. I'm just glad the little halloween looking mugz don't bite or sting. Yeah, living about 20 or so miles from the Florida panhandle they have been a regular fixture around here for years. A couple of Saturdays on a trip to the northern panhandle was the absolute worst I've ever seen. I stopped to get gas, they had the gas island literally COVERED. They were in balls the size of golf balls on the ground. I had to brush them off the gas nozzle and they were flying in my face and haphazardly up any orafice they could find.

Don't go to Florida/Orlando in May especially the last week. They were out in full force. Man it dampered the vacation a little and they were all over your car.

^^^ Just reading this has me itching - SERIOUSLY! :scratching:

AND I'm STILL itching, Bart!!! :splat: :argue:

:smoke: what Cat Daddy said!

Amazing, you prolly too young to remember that Alfred Hitchcok movie "Birds" (or something like that),, it was all these seagulls and birds that turned on people and attack em; das what I felt like wit all these little orange & black bugs flying around getting into everything i had to fan away from my grill. i wasn't too worried though because their attention was not on me, but rather on, well, love and pro-creating their lab arses! good night, sleep tight!

Love bug larvae grow up in grassy areas and feed on dead vegetation. The adult love bug does not eat, but subsists on the food taken in during its larval stage. Upon reaching maturity the love bug spends the entirety of its life copulating with its mate, hence its numerous romantic nicknames. The male and female attach themselves at the rear of the abdomen and remain that way at all times, even in flight. In fact, after mating, the male dies and is dragged around by the female until she lays her eggs. Females lay up to 350 eggs in debris, and about 20 days later the eggs hatch into larvae. The larvae may live for months before passing into adulthood.

Y'all mentioned these last yr and I had never come across them. A few weeks later I went to visit my mom and they were everywhere. I do not like them at all.

The article below contradicts the Univ of Florida experiment.

what fascinates me is how is it that this ONE IMPULSE is SO UNIVERSAL among every living thing on the planet? Everything on the planet has ONE thing in common; REPRODUCE. you got pine trees for crying out loud evolving to where their seed have a propeller on them so that they will be carried further in the wind and maybe have a better chance at germinating and growing into an adult tree and producing YET MORE seeds with a propeller wing on them to repeat the whole process over and over. and here you have these practically worthless, man-created insects that serve no purpose,, yet the main focus of their existance is to pro-create. why is that?

Round table/Prayer board, please send help.
