Louisiana Votes To Split HS Football Playofffs

Man they are 12 years too late. We would have had a championship in 2001 if not for that darn 4A private school in the New Orleans area.

I don't agree with it..... if they weren't part of the LHSAA then split it... but how can you split a playoff when all the schools are apart of the LHSAA. Alabama has a separate athletic association for most private schools.

Yep. East Feliciana would have won Atleast the last six-seven years. All of their quarter finals loses have been to John Curtis, Evangel(who they had beat), Cavalry Baptist(who they had beat) and Notre Dame Crowley(who they should have beat)

Texas splits theirs. With the voucher program in Louisiana, they have basically gutted the public schools of their talent.

well that's different... with a voucher program that's an entirely different ballgame... We don't have a state voucher program.... so most kids who go to private schools here have the money to pay for private schools.

Just think if you are a 2A school with 40 kids, with your players playing both ways and special teams and you have to play John Curtis or Evangel(who usually have the best teams in the state) who dress out over a 100 kids. Now I have saw Clinton(east Feliciana now) and Kentwood, who had exceptional athletes, play Evangel down to the wire because they were a passing team, but Curtis was a different story. Now way would a public 2A school beat them.

... 7 championships

That dynamic has, in the past, led to private schools such as Shreveport’s Evangel Christian Academy being able to dominate the highest levels of high school football, despite being one of the state’s smaller schools in terms of enrollment.

“At the most recent Superdome Prep Classic, seven of the 10 participants — and four of the five champions — were private schools. Either John Curtis or Evangel won the 2A championship in each of the six years they have both been in the division, and neither lost a playoff game during that span to anyone but the other.

–Lake Charles American Press
Some private schools, meanwhile, have countered over the years that “recruiting†programs were the exception rather than the rule, and separate playoffs would hurt those schools who were “honest.†The issue has remained contentious for the past several decades, and repeated attempts to form a dual-playoff system have failed in the past.

Under the proposal, there would be seven state championship games played every years — one for 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A in the public school bracket, and one in Division I and Division II in the private school bracket. Private schools that used to belong to 3A and above would be Division I schools, while former 1A and 2A schools would be in Division II.

Yes, I think the voucher program is what really made this a priority. It is not fair for Baker High School with 450 students in 3A who can only draw students from within their small district while also dealing with schools like Southern Lab and Redemptorist stea, I mean recruiting away their best athletes and be expected to beat Parkview Baptist and U-High in the playoffs.

Last year East Feliciana only had 215 males playing in 3A kicking azz.

Didn't EF lose to a bunch of Sophomores from ND Crowley? :emlaugh:
ND= private school. Notre Dame had a lot of seniors. EF had more underclassmen. EF has been the 3A,2A public school champion 5 out of the last 7 years. Capital earned it Broadway's junior and senior year.

Dude who do you think you're talking to? ND had a team full of SOPHOMORES. :emlaugh:

No they didn't. EF is moving down to 2A and now since Curtis ND Evangel out the way, I can't see anyone beating them in the playoffs. They haven't lost to a public school in the playoffs the last 7 years or so.

You can say what you want but EF caught a YOUNG ND team and still couldn't win. Under normal conditions they would have wiped the floor with EF. I do understand that ND recruit but playing with the truth looks horrible on your part.

Can you explain voucher system ?

Let's use Redemptorist as an example since they are a voucher school. Basically Jindal is trying to privatize education by moving to a more business approach where schools compete against each other for students and if you don't succeed, then your school shuts down and fails. He has stacked the box against public schools by freezing their funds and refusing to pay for a lot of things. With the voucher system students are able to attend Redemptorist free via voucher. But here is the catch, that voucher is paid for using tax-payer money from the school district that those students left. Meaning that now that school district will receive less funding with fewer students. This was all billed up as giving parents options to get their children out of failing schools, but those in the know understand that was his push to privatize education slow and steady.

Now say 10 top athletes from around BR decided to apply for Redemptorist via voucher, they would be able to go there on the tax-payer's dime, and Redemptorist would still have extra scholarship money left over to recruit non-voucher students. And it appears the state of Louisiana is being very lax with their monitoring of these voucher schools.

Alright wipe the floor. It was very poor offensive play calling. 16-14 is not wiping the floor lol.

The LHSAA stepped in early and prevented voucher kids from competing immediately for the private schools.

Another thing: Notre Dame-Crowley is nothing like Evangel and John Curtis. Saw them beat Independence in the 3A semifinals with a senior-heavy group. They were experienced and disciplined. Not too athletic, but disciplined and knew what to do despite the fact Indy had better talent. The next year, Independence beat ND down in the semifinals. When you look at Notre Dame, you can kinda tell they don't have voucher kids on the roster.

I agree. EF had SUperior talent, but ND was very discipline and were always in position.
