MJ's is every kid his age's favoroite player......
I just think he should have distinguished himself better...
for his own legacy...and it appears he will have one.

I'm very impressed with this kid generally. He's articulate,
handling this pressure very well and most of all:
A TEAM PLAYER...

Lebron's team is even more garbage than Carmelo's. Plus, he has Ricky Davis to contend with...the most selfish player in the league, I think. Either way...college ball would have done nothing to help Lebron's career.

You keep saying it is just his first game....but that's the point. It is just his FIRST GAME.... AGAINST THE KINGS! He played like he belonged out there as a star.

So when he looks like he doesn't belong the next night against the wizzards or the Warriors tommorrow, or next week, or a month from now, what then???

Dude, He's got to make his "garbage" squad better, point blank...Carmelo doesn't have half the talent on the Nuggets to work with and he's already making the folks around him better with his presence and leadership on the court...He got that leadership upgrade in that one season at Syracuse where he had to be the go to guy.


Man, both of those kids have all the raw talent in the world, but it's going to be the experience factor that Carmelo has that's going to help the nuggets become a better squad..He's going to be the "go to" guy, much like he was at Syracuse...

Is Lebron going to be the crunchtime guy for the Cavs??? nobody's saying that LeBron doesn't have the talent to belong; any layman can see that he does.

I'm saying that it's going to take the development of his intangibles to make his growth as a prime-time player complete. You can't evaluate that off of one game....for anybody...
 
So you think that Lebron did nothing to make his teammates better? That he didn't set them up for good plays...become a calming factor on the court...distribute the ball? The only thing that could hold Lebron back from elevating the team is Ricky Davis. Watch the game tonight...

I'll offically be off of his arse when this season ends and I can see his consistency throughout the season.


the question is can he do this on a night in and night out basis??? That still remains to be seen for both Carmelo and LeBron.

IMHO I think Carmelo is going to have a little more of that consistency from game to game as the season progresses because of the experience he had at the collegiate level.


Is LeBron slaw??? not by a longshot...Will he take a little bit more time to develop into the player everybody thinks he is now??? Probably...
 
LJ had 25pts and 9 assist (another 18 points), so his hand directly contributed to 43pts, that's amazing for a guy str8 out of high school playing one of the top teams in the league.

He is good on just pure talent alone right now, once he develops a good shot, body control, and defense he is going to be remarkable. I don't think one year of college makes that much of a difference. For $100Million, the only difference it would have made is some old white college AD would have gotten even richer off him without him getting a dime.
 
L.B. is the future....no doubt...he will be tremendious, thats 4 sho. But his N.B.A. debut performace, lovely!!!

crazylegs, there have been several "crowned" players who played 3-4 years of college ball and didn't last three years in the NBA so getting one year of college experience is moot.

Ain't that the truth. It make mathematical sense. If most NBA draft picks have an average of 2 years experience of college ball, then of course the gap between high school and college players going to the league has gotten narrower. It is not like the days of 90% of the NBA picks having completed 4 years of college.

The NBA game has suffered because kids don't have the basic, but that doesn't matter because too many players in the league come in without the basic skills.

LJ has a weakness running the point in the half-court set. He will start to have problems with teams putting their best 6-7 defensive guy on him (boys like Jim Jackson). You see what JJ did to Melo last night, all up in his grill.

Crazy, I see what you're getting at, but you have to look at it like this:

Melo DID get a year of experience AFTER high school...

This IS LJ's first year AFTER high school.

If you had the same argument at the beginning of NEXT year, then you may convince some folks.


The point is, whether it be a year of college EXPERIENCE or a year of professional EXPERIENCE...it's all still EXPERIENCE, and that IS what makes a player better.

Carmelo has a year of post high school experience over LeBron...not because he chose to go to college, but because he graduated a YEAR EARLIER! ;)


You have to take that into account when making your argument. :)
