Lakers trade Lamar Odom to the Mavericks

Fish ain't going nowhere

Got nothing against FISH and if he comes off the bench, the LAKERS will be a better team over the course of a season. The LAKERS need a young point guard. These young cats were blowing past Fisher last year.

GASOL was already HOUSTON bound if that CP3 Trade went through. They just decided to go ahead and trade ODEM to Dallas anyway in a one on one deal.

Unless HOWARD lose his mind and say he not leaving Orlando UNRESTRICTED next year, Orlando can't laugh at shat. Get what you can and a shat load of draft picks for the next 2 years.

It was not being laughed at this weekend before STERN interveined. Heck, it was basically a done deal as soon as CP3 landed in LA. In fact, that byotch owner from Cleveland was so convinced Orlando was about to lose Howard to the Lakers, he e-mailed STERN a 4 page whinning tantrum basically beggin him to nix the CP3 deal. Saying "You promised that small market teams like New Orleans and Orlando" would be protected from the large market teams when it came to star player movement.

Cleveland Owner Byotching and Whinning again.........This time to STERN .
However, the Yahoo! Sports Staff obtained an email sent from Gilbert to Stern in which he explicitly urged the Commissioner stop the trade. Initially it was believed that Gilbert's lobbying against the trade may have factored into Stern's decision, however, Wojnarowski, later tweeted that a timestamp on the email indicated it was sent after 10 p.m. when the trade had already been vetoed.

"It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed," Gilbert wrote in the email obtained by Yahoo!. "This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets."

In the email, Gilbert seemed particularly bothered by the fact that the proposed swap would allow the Lakers to save $40 million while also getting the best player in the trade. Even worse, Gilbert feared that the Lakers would still be able to acquire all-star center Dwight Howard later on from the Orlando Magic. Expressing a sentiment likely to be felt in the sparsely-filled arenas of the many also-ran teams, Gilbert asked Stern "When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?"

There was no evidence that Howard was headed to the Lakers before the CP3 trade fell through. In fact, all indications were that New Jersey would be the most likely landing spot for Howard after the CP3 trade. In my opinion, and I clearly have no sourced evidence to back this up, but it would appear that LA pulled out of the CP3 negotiations in part because it because increasingly obvious that getting him and Howard would be nearly impossible. You're right that Orlando would have to take what it could get, but the package that New Jersey offered would've trumped one LA could offer without Gasol. Beyond that, Dan Gilbert is a head case. His rambling delusions aren't evidence that the Lakers were about to pull off a move for Howard with the pieces left behind after the CP3 trade.

The Lakers wouldn't trade Fisher. He's the one player on that roster that commands Kobe's respect. Don't forget that Kobe was one of the first star players and one of the first players period to express openness to accepting a 50/50 split, which Fisher had been pushing behind the scenes. If Kobe seems upset now that LA traded Odom for "seemingly nothing" in his words, he would be absolutely apoplectic if they even talked about moving Fisher.

I'm a Lakers fan, but if I was the GM of the Lakers, then I would have considered doing what the 49ers did to Joe Montana. I think the Lakers should have kept Lamar Odom and traded Kobe to the Magic for Howard and a first round pick from the Magic. After that, I would have went on national TV to state the following...the Los Angeles Lakers will now turn it's efforts to finding the best point guard to feed its four headed monster...Howard, Gasol, Bynum and Odom. With that being said, CP3 is a free agent come 2012, therefore I could see him coming to LA to fill the void left by Kobe. Kobe is getting old and after he's gone, then it's back to square one.

Um.....Steve Young was already there so there was no void to fill.

Yes, but Young was unproven...2012 is around the corner and CP3 will be available in 2012.

And Chris Paul has proven that he can replace a Kobe Bryant and continue to win NBA titles how? (although you didn't state that as a criteria in you original scenario)

I see you're still moving the goal post trying to score after you've clearly miss.

With my scenario, Paul would have been in the same situation that Young was in, when he had Jerry Rice and other great players around him. If Paul had Howard, Gasol, Bynum, and Odom on the same team, then trading Kobe would have been justified. In my opinion, the team would be better.

What are you going to do when Kobe is old and retire?

What kind of crazy az question is that?

What did the Lakers do when all the others HOF's retire?

Ummm, no he wasn't. Steve Young was the league MVP in 1992, his second season in a row leading the league in passer rating. Montana was traded in 93.

What players did Young have around him? That's the point that I'm driving home. Young had other great players around him, so it's not like he became MVP with nothing around him. The same could have happened for CP3 if the Lakers were to straight up trade Kobe for Howard. CP3 would have been surrounded around other championship players on the team. Gasol, Bynum, Odom and others.

How long did it take the Lakers to return to the finals after the HOF's departed?

That was a unique set of circumstances.
Kareem had retired, Worthy and Cooper was playing their last year, and NOBODY saw Magic Johnson having to retire after the 1991 season because of AIDS. Magic could have played another 10 years. That is why it took so long for the LAKERS to come back. When bad luck hit, it hit us hard just when the Bulls started their run.

That AIDS announcement blew the team up from the ground up. Had to start from scratch and didn't get back on track until Shaq teamed up with "Nick tha Quick" the year before KOBE came into the league in the mid-1990's.

Nobody becomes MVP with nothing around them. Besides the fact that Orlando would never make that trade (why would they want an unhappy, aging superstar taking up half their cap space when they're trying to clear cap space, which is why Hedo Turkoglu will be a part of any trade for Dwight Howard), CP3 (again, who may or may not have a meniscus in his left knee) would have cost you some combination of Odom, Gasol, and Bynum.

:lmao:

HELL NAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Youy put Lamar Odem in that position on a night to night basis, you won't here from that mofo all year. If he not running and gunning with minimum contact, he ain't shat. Odem is worse than ole school Sam Perkins at taking contact and banging under the boards. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

Sam Perkins???!!!!! You ain't old enough to know about that

Are you kidding.................SLEEPY EYES was my 6'10" 3 point specialist.

I never in my NBA watching life EVER saw Sam Perkins take contact more than 3 times in a game. Dude would be out on the perimeter, gunning 3 pointers all day on teams. He take a jump shot and would not be 3 inches off the ground. :lmao:

With the trade of Odom setting off a week of public criticism and speculation by both the media and fans, many of the people close to the situation are visibly annoyed by the haranguing.

"Look, we loved Lamar as a player and a person — still do," said the Laker official, "but when he reacted the way he did to nearly being traded, Mitch didn't have many options.

"Lamar's greatest quality — his sensitivity — is also sometimes his biggest downfall. He's an emotional guy, and it's what makes him a favorite among his teammates and (reporters). But when he talked with Mitch after the Paul deal fell through, he made it clear to all of us that he wasn't going to be able to put it behind him anytime soon, if ever.

"And that put us right up against the wall because of the short time we have to get ready for the season.

"If we believed that Lamar would eventually come around, we probably would have given it some time. I know Mitch would have let it play out a little longer. But he (Odom) was so upset and hurt that he could be put in a deal, that he started to pull away from the team immediately. Pau came into the offices and he was upset as well. He told Mitch that he didn't like the thought of being traded, but that he understood it was business.

LOL. Get off my boy Sam. I liked ole Sam when he was on the UNC team with Jordan and Worthy and they won the NCAA title against Georgetown. Sam was a banger when he first got to the league. But see he was only 6'9 or 6'10 during an era of bigger centers. It was fine for him in college. But once he got tired of banging his first few years in the NBA. He developed that left handed jumper from the perimeter. Sam could get off the ground and run the floor prior to his Laker days. He was at the middle of his career by then and had been with the Mavs for about 7-8 years. LOL. But look up the old Sam stats. He was in the paint. Just got smart and said fugg it, I need to shoot from the outside, getting too old to bang. Which it did allow him a longer career. Can't be mad about that.

From my understanding, Cuban has more of a sinister plan brewing. He cleared a bunch of cap space not signing Chandler and Barea which was his reasoning of not doing it. Jason Kidd is old and this has to be has last year. So his contract will be gone. They didn't keep Caron Butler either. Cuban is up to something big time. Now that he and Gilbert got Stern by the nut sack, he gone orchestrate something for the Mavs. Remember Howard has them as one of the teams he would like to go to. I can see Cuban making a three team trade to get Howard.

Royal Blue

Dont take this personally...with all due respect...please dont get mad...but uuuh...thats the dumbest schit I have ever read in my life. Im looking for the sarcasm...hopefully you are joking.

Why would the Magic trade Howard to the Lakers for 35 year old Kobe and THEN give the Lakers a first round pick? Kobe is the greatest of all time, but Com'n on son. The Lakers aint gonna do Kobe like the Bulls did MJ. The Lakers have friendly jews. Naw man...you are just joking. I think this is an incident when the young folks say PAUSE.

This man here is a legit Lakers fan. Don't here too much about Nick Van Exel from some Laker fans.
