Labor Day Classic to end?

If you think the teams record matter that much just look at the game in Dallas. When is the last time PV went in with a winning record or with anyone thinking they had a chance to win. <br>
At SU...you all are used to that since that's alot of folks only avenue to watch a decent college football game. They'll pay. Give a brotha options and watch what happens.
What do you call LSU???

I think having it during labor day is a good theme for the game. I also believe that with it being the first game of the year it "should" draw because of the unknown. It will be the first chance the alums have a chance to see the teams. There will no preconceived notions about the team at that point when it comes to records. I would leave it during Labor day and get ERF or ALW to promote it.

Fiyah,

There was a differance with that game because it was promoted with a lot of high schools, middle schools and football sports associations around the city. The ticket prices were extremely discounted and even given away to get people to that game. Not to exclude the promotion of Willowridge and Southwest Dekalb High School bands doing the halftime shows. That by itself probably brought 1/3 of the attendence to the game.

Exactly, see what happens when you get out there and "Promote" the game and use the word "Classic" the records, the timing and the team are not as important as putting together the entire Package.

Actually, the record was a big draw...TSU was 7-1 at the time.

Jag4life,

I said as important.

I am suggesting that the important part of this game was the "Classic" name inconjunction with Promotions that emphasized the Willowridge and Southwest Dekalb High School bands doing the halftime shows, emphasized the record of Texas Southern and their standings in the SWAC race, as well as them emphasizing and marketing the special ticket prices. It was a combination of things that brought this attendance numbers together between two programs that normally to not draw well in this area.

I am suggesting that it has more to do with a combination of things than the Labor Day Classic rather than suggesting that the attendance numbers would significantly drop if you move the game back to the second or third weekend in September, with all things considered that the same type of promotions would exist under a different Classic title.

I totally agree with the Entire Promotion Package, which did not occur this past year and several other years too. I know the entertainment dollar is hard to get in Houston w/ so many other options that no other Swac city has to encounter, but I have faith that it can be done if done right and consistently.

Foreman is interested in boxing promotions not football...we had a sponsor this year and it was State Farm bank. They are also sponsoring the classic tomorrow night versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Lewis...LSU football? Come on......ain't many going to that. Try having UH, TSU., PV and Rice with home games at the same time in addition to Texas HS football.

the game would draw well 2 weeks later. Say PV schedules Langston for their Labor Day Classic and brings Paul Quinn down a week later and wins both. TSU does the same and this game went from the "unknown" to to products worth seeing.

Lew, TSU isn't our rival. It's a friendly competitive relationship (strange huh?). Me personally, I feel that SU and GSU are our rivals. lol Especially SU. :D

Something different needs to occur. I hate seeing the #s dwindle over time.

I'd really like for us to use the "pete" approach and schedule some cream-puffs for the first 2-3 games and then go into SWAC action (preferrably w/ TSU as game #1 in a Classic). That would be the right direction for our struggling and upcoming programme to head in.

Foreman promoted that "George Foreman Classic" 3 years ago.

UH or Rice or PV or TSU could have the LONE home game in town and still not draw. HS football is moot because there are not that many games on Saturday.

This whole post is SAD..... 2 pages of post trying to tell you how to get a game between TWO SWAC schools damn near in the same city to draw fans..

I agree...all I see are excuses from the person who started the thread...if PV-GSU can draw in Dallas, PV-TSU should be able to draw in Houston.

More people go to a LSU game than all them sorry schools you named combined. But LSU can have 90K+ at a game and Mumford will still be packed. I know you will have an excuse, but maybe that is part of the problem ( a bunch of excuses)

Houston has what? 1 million blacks? BR has what? 80K at most?

more to do in the big city.....your city is nothing but a glorified college town. When the TSU and SU game happens...watch how many clubs, etc, try to get a piece of the action.

Panthro, now that you mentioned it, I can agree with that. From what I have seen since I have been here in Houston, the TSU/PV rivalry is, for the most part, a friendly competitive relationship. Nothing like that Alabama/Auburn rivalry. But thats :topic:

Case in point.....look at all these Jags in Houston who live and breathe football. A lot of them aren't going to SU games but they don't come to TSU or PV games either. Why? Because they are doing something else. They don't have that luxury in Baton Rouge.

as for Dallas......find me another bigtime game and I'll let you know will they come.

I went to 3 TSU home games this year.

you went 3....you were probably the only 1....you can count the heads at TSU. This page is a perfect example.....a lot of SWAC alums who live in Houston aren't following their team every week. They are doing other things.

Perfect example....we play tonight at the Dome...SU won't draw against Lincoln. so why not come and see us?
