Jesse Jackson's group to pay alleged victim's tuition

DURHAM, North Carolina (AP) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Saturday his Rainbow/PUSH Coalition would pay the college tuition of a black woman who alleges white members of the Duke University lacrosse team raped her.

The 27-year-old woman, a student at North Carolina Central University, told police she and another woman were hired to strip dance at a team party. The woman told police that three men at the party dragged her into a bathroom and raped her March 13.

No one has been charged in the case, but the allegations have rocked the community. Jackson he has yet to speak with the woman, but said his group pledged to pay for her tuition even if her story proves false.

The woman should be able to support her two children and pay her tuition without having "to sacrifice her body to make money."

The prosecutor has said he believes a crime was committed at the party, citing a medical exam that found the woman's injuries and behavior were consistent with being raped.

Attorneys for the players have said DNA tests failed to connect any players to the attack, and they have urged the prosecutor to drop his investigation. But several defense attorneys say they expect the district attorney to ask a grand jury Monday to indict one or more of the players.

But in a phone interview with The Associated Press, Jackson said he believed there was enough circumstantial evidence indicating something happened to the woman.

"There's more evidence that violence occurred to her than she's the lead of a hoax," Jackson said.
 



This is stupid on the Rainbow/PUSH coalition in my opinion.

First, no one forced this chick to become an escort and a stripper. She could have found another job, or ever got student loans and paid them back later.

Second, what about all the other minority women who are working as strippers to pay for school, is Jesse's organization going to pay for them as well?

Third, this chicks strory has not been proven to be accurate as of yet. What if all of this is found out to be a lie? Then what.........

TBJ...I feel you to an extent...but then I thought about it...you know...and I know...there is a cover up somewhere. I think because the Duke students are basically slapping the judicial system in the face...Jesse decided to do the same.
 
I guess my main concerns is why Jesse have not try to establish a fund for women like this!


See, if society (black) was not so screwed up we would not have our sisters out on a pole or in a bed trying to pay for an education.
 
Kudos' to Jesse and Rainbow Coalition. We all know that Duke is trying to cover some mess that those boys did. I am happy to know that someone is stepping up to the plate to help this young woman out. It is not like she is not trying to get an education so she can do better for herself and her children. I commend Jesse for this act of kindness. We need more people to become compassionate about others' needs

The story says that it will pay, even if her story is false.

Oh well, I can't judge her on that. Unless you've walked in somebody's shoes, you won't truly understand why they do the things they do. It's easy for us to say: take out a loan, go work at Barnes&Nobles or something.

Nonetheless, I wish the best for her. If her story is true, she went through a horrific ordeal.

Until all of the facts come out, I still say that Jesse and Rainbow/PUSH should not be allocating funds for someone who may be lying. The DNA results came back negative and now stories about this chicks criminal past are surfacing.

If she was raped, I hate that it happened, but in her line of profession (stripping at private parties) she put herself in a bad position. Two women alone, stipping at a college party, for an all male sports team, with alcohol present......... hmmm, this was a crime waiting to happen! The past story stated that she was already working as an escort. Escort = Prostitute. The only difference is that she is working by appointment and not walking the street. Don't get me wrong, I hate that this young lady "MAY HAVE BEEN RAPED", but we really don't know what really happened.

It is no different than me walking thru 5th ward at night alone wearing with a platinum Rolex with a diamond face and a blinged out chain. I am setting myself up to be jacked. She may have made arrangements when she went back into the house to sell some *****. Dudes got what they wanted and said we ain't paying you schyatt! Point is, we really don't know what happened.

If Jesse is going to pay her tuition, why don't he pay Diamond tuition to from the Player Club? Why not Lexus tuition who is over at Harlem Nights? Why not Booty Licious tuition from Club Onyx?..........

You're right. I just think that since Jesse attended A&T that he is doing this because let's be real...these white folks done at Duke got loot...they are hiding something.

Also we have to remember this young lady is the VICTIM until proven that she is not.

You are correct. She is a victim. A victim to a society that have turn denied a woman like her an proper oppurtunity for a college education (The so called American Dream).

Just think how many people we could send to college if we use 1/10 of the funds we are wasting in Iraq.

The young lady's background has nothing to do with the fact that she was raped. Ray Charles can see through this mess. It is a cover-up to protect the white boys. We know that she had wounds consistent with being raped and the white boys did it. I don't care what she is doing for a living because one thing is for sure, she is trying. If she has lied about what happened then she is just following her white counterparts when they lied about being raped by black men that didn't happen now and years ago. Pay-back doesn't feel so good when it is on the other foot.

ALJSUII, this is exactly what I mean. White Women have done this many time to black men and this could be a case of reverse racism.

Well we could say the same about Biggie when he said, "This is for the teacher who said I wasn't going to amount to nothing because I'm out here dealing drug to feed my daughter."
 
Her past really doesn't play a part in any of this. Even if you put your self in a stupid situation that doesn't give others the right to take advantage of it.

Sure walk through 5th ward blinged out...you'll still call the police after they stomp the shat out of you if you don't try to buck them down yourself. Foolish move but it still doesn't make your attackers right.

I'm not really for or against Jesse's move but it would be impossible for him to help everybody that might be in a similar situation. Maybe by helping one he can use that to get a message out that maybe other people need to find another way.

Every stripper or single mother is NOT a VICTIM.

Most do it because THEY WANT TO.................Not too many jobs pay more in a night.:xeye:

That's fact.

Besides nobody has been found guilty yet, and a GRAND JURY INDICTMENT is as easy to get as catching a cold if your outdoors, naked in Alaska, in the middle of winter, at night, -30 degrees.

Only the PROSECUTION and PROSECUTION witnesses testify for the Grand Jury..............the DEFENSE is not present at any time.
A DA would have to be really DUMB if they can't get an indictment.

As far as Jessie...................same ole same ole.
Have spotlight will travel.

Nobody know what went on, but even though I could care less about DUKE, they have been labeled and convicted already with no evidence.

Just wating for this play out.

Got a feeling there are going to be a lot of people picking their CRACKED FACES off the pavement when this one is over because of all the "Written In Stone" statements that have been made.....................especially by the DA.:p
