Ok MH, let me see if i can explain...

In news writing first reference should always be clear. On first reference you always use clear, official terms when refering to a subject. ... i.e. you would not use "J-State" in a story before using "Jackson State". On first reference DELTA STATE... or even DELTA is the correct word usage. On secocnd reference you can be more loose... ex: DSU, the Statemen, or EVEN "the fighting Okra" ... Whether or not Kenn understands these first day of school concept ... i don't know. But the bottom line is OKRA was meant as smack. period. ... come on MH.. .you and I both know it. lol.

This would be my take on it. I, agree with NT also. As a piece representing supposedly original information, I would have been more formal.

In other words, a precedent has been set. So, the C word, along with "apes, monkeys university" is fine? Is that what I can read into this?

Is okra a racial slur? Next time you're in the bathroom, clearing your mind...think about it.

I'd love to see how you black folk would react if your local paper did that headline. " Southern Win Follows Loss to Jackrabbit State" or "Valley Gets By Annie Mae". There's a time and place for everything. That was a Smack Board title. That's where it shoulda been posted. NO journalistic integrity. I don't get into misusing school names on the Sports Board. Too much respect for our schools to do it. That's just me. I don't diss a school on the Sports Board by typing the name in lower case. That's clearly meant to be disrespectful. Guess that's how y'all were raised.
