JSU Seeks Legal Action Against Grambling, SWAC...

didn't the SWAC already issue it's "punishment" in the form of a fine and a makeup game? Requiring Gram to play in Jackson 4 years in a row is excessive.

It's three years in a row AND they gave our 2017 game to Grambling.

SOG, to answer your question, if we get the 2017 game in Jackson, I would personally feel a lot better. Make it happen. :D

I say go to court...I want to see what some of the GSU Administration and former coaches have to say under oath. Maybe folks can finally get some walking papers.

Why? It's an honest question. I'm asking you as attorney. What is wrong with the "strike" language considering that it is in the contract.

First of all, they are students, not employees as LS pointed out. Any legal definition you find of the word "strike" used in this context will include the words "employee" and "work". The players are not employees and playing football on the college level is not considered "work"; although some students at Northwestern are looking to change that.

Second, the cancellation was not caused by concerted activity on the part of the players. It was caused by the inability of Grambling's administration (starting with the man they named interim coach) to control their program. The relationship between employee and employer has a different legal standard than that of the Institution and student. If you fail to control the students under your watch, you will usually be held responsible for their actions. What actions did Grambling take to ensure those players would be on that bus? What consequences did they face as a result of not showing up? How long did Grambling's pres and AD know a cancellation was possible?

say what? You are REALLY in attorney mode now. :smh: We know the game was cancelled because of the players, not the university. Players are the ones who play. Not the administrators. The players decided not to play.

I agree. I'm just not following this line that Gram should pay Jsu upwards of 400K and play 3 (or 4 years) in a row in Jackson.

Look, there are repercussions we faced due to the half million dollar hole in our budget that can't be "recouped" the following year. Budgets are year to year. We don't have to bow our heads accept whatever remedy the SWAC and Grambling put before us. Last year's homecoming game was shaping up to be one of the biggest we've had in a while. We lost a LOT, beyond those figures they showed. Throwing us another home game doesn't make us whole.

Players are not independent of the football program, and the football program is not independent of the University. The University did not have control of their program, as such they should be held responsible for whatever actions came as a result.

If you banked on a half million for homecoming your budget would not have been met this school year. You haven't made a half million for any Grambling game in recent years, and only came close for homecoming against Valley in 2012 according to the article.

If Grambling wants to argue about the numbers, that's their right. An independent body can figure out the final figure. We will stick with our numbers until then. I will say this: that game was going to draw more than 21K.

What is your basis for that number?

JSU here is what you do why don't you have Grambling come to you this fall on their buses and and stay in the hotels and then allow them to show up to the stadium on Saturday and then say you all are not going to play the game and call it even :lmao:...otherwise you all can forget getting what you all believe you are due for this no show!

It's as simple as this. Gram was under contract to bring a football team to Jackson to play a football game. They didn't do it. It only takes 11 to play. More than that showed up for the bus to go to Jackson. There was a football team available to go play. Not ideal, but NBA teams will go with 6 players when they should have 6 more. Gram had a team. Chose not to go play.

As for scheduling Gram for Homecoming this year, what does that do for last year??? Not a damn thing. Last year is lost unless somebody comes out of pocket. Money made for homecoming 2014 will be for 2014.

That was only for ticket sales. There are SMALL things that you and others are not even thinking about. We had about 10K program book printed for the game. That's another $50K in revenue we lost. Im sure that by the time you add up all of our losses and figure in the fact that we still had expenses, you will stop trying to play Devils advocate.

Wasn't the boycott outside of Grambling's "reasonable control" as stated in the contract? They couldn't force players to play ! and what's the precedent for NCAA game forfeited or "no-show"?

That term ain't gonna apply to a player revolt/mutiny. Unionized workers strike. That mess was no strike.

So what was it then if it wasn't a strike? What makes them "unionized"? Keep in mind, the players hadn't practiced the week going into the game. The strike didn't just start when they decided not to get on the bus.

There's going to be a lot of mad people on here when they find out this lawsuit won't go the way that they think it should.

I'd say no. And I continue to submit that gram had a team that coulda come to Jackson.

No, we were mad when the game was canceled. Even a financial settlement won't make up for having our homecoming ruined. Whatever happens now is just business.
